TOM questions (m)

Hello,

I'm on day 8 of Phase One today. I'm on day 3 of TOM/AF today, too. My weight loss has been odd and I'm wondering just how much having my period is affecting it.

Here's a rundown of my first week, weight-wise. I get on the scale each morning (with the knowledge that fluctuations are perfectly normal). When I started SBD I was 241 and by day 3 I was down 6 lbs to 235. I was thrilled, but then a day before TOM arrived, I gained back 2-3 lbs and I've been rolling around 238 every morning since without budging. I know I'm probably retaining water right now. My question is: when TOM is over will I see a sudden drop again? Just curious. I'm still happy with a 3 lb weightloss, too (anything less is good at this point), BUT I'd like to see more progress since I have a LOOOOOONG way to go to my goal of 135 (or even my mini-goal of a 25 lb loss).

Also, I am wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for foods on this diet on a budget. We are on a very strict budget for groceries and I'm having a lot of trouble affording all the fresh produce and meats. Any tricks? Or do I just need to suck it up and figure out how to buy it all?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Karen

Hi Karen!

Welcome to the beach! Sounds like you are off to a good start. I wouldn't worry too much about your wt during TOM, that can be a tricky time for wt loss with water retention, just try to be carefull of your salt intake during TOM and try not to weigh yourself everyday! You really should only weigh yourself once a week. Keep up your water intake and you should see the scales start to move again after TOM is done. For me I gain more during Pre-TOM than actually during, everybody is different so try not to worry too much, you're doing great!

As for the grocery bill, that's a tough one! We are spending a fortune at the store too! I haven't figured out how to change that yet, except figuring the money we save on not getting take-out 2-3x/wk is the difference in the grocery expense. It's so strange to spend so much and not be buying all the "pre-packaged" stuff we usually do and associate with higher bills? Oh well...the WOE works so it's worth the expense.

Hope this helps!

Good Luck!

Congrats on the loss so far...

I know how it feels to be on a tight budget... Living on my own, paying school loans, "budget" is my middle name...

I think the best thing to do, which takes a while, but try to get flyers and compare prices, also, only buy enough fresh produce to last you a few days, instead of a week. I find this prevents food waste and waste of your money.

I find that buying frozen veggies also saves money. It doesnt have the exact same nutrients as fresh, but it has most of it. The way I read it canned or frozen food are packaged almost the same day picked.

I also clip coupons... BORING, but it helps a lot. And another thing.... SHOP ALONE if you can. Everytime I bring my BF shopping he always wants little extras and I always end up buying them... as for kids, I no longer bring my neice with me...

These are just a few tips that I have been trying and so far, my savings are on the rise... YOOHOO

About TOM, stay away from nuts and salty foods during that time, I find that had a huge effect on me.

Good luck!

Hi Karen,

TOM can certainly add a number of pounds.

You are definitely correct about the frozen veggies.

I have to be short (dinner guest arriving any min), but wanted to remind you that by buying all the healthy ingredients, you will be cooking more and spending less on take-out, pizza, and eating out.
