Phase 1 and exercise?

Ok, I just bought the book this week and started reading it. I don't know for sure when I will start because I am currently breastfeeding my 5 month old daughter. I have heard you can't do Phase 1 while breastfeeding? any thoughts on that? And my other concern is exercising... will I have enough energy to weight lift if I'm not eating carbs? Should I start Phase 1 first and then add weighttraining later on?

Thanks for any advice! I'm so looking forward to eating a healthy diet and losing weight.

I saw your post and just thought I would let you know my experience with the exercise part. I am on day 11 today and I exercise approx. 6days a week. I weight train 3xweek with cardio each day. I have found since I started this diet that my endurance and strength workouts are much harder to get through. I was thinking the same thing about not having carbs beforehand. I would generally have a slice of toast or some crackers before my workout but now that is not an option. I don't know what to tell you really, except to maybe stick it out until phase 2 when you can start introducing these foods again. That's what I plan to do. I also found that I was much more thirsty, so my fluid intake went up while working out too. HTH. Suzanne

Exercising during P1 was hard for me at first - I was used to running 6 mi a day, but when your carb intake is drastically reduced, I just ran until I felt I needed to stop (which averaged about 3-4 mi). I didn't push it. I also did weight training 3 days a week, and by the first of the second week of P1, I was feeling fine, and was running the 6 mi again as usual. But it depends on person to person. So I would say atleast walk 3-4 days a week (if you can, or want to exercise), and as for weight training, just do what you can, and if you feel too weak, then stop (chances are your form will be bad and you could hurt yourself). Hope that helps!

I was also worried about not having enough energy for my workouts on Phase 1, but it turned out fine. My suggestion is to eat your serving of nuts right before exercising. It worked for me!

Good luck,
