What did I do wrong!?

I tried roasting my chick peas this morning (I was looking forward to a crunchy, salty snack tonight while I watch the "Friends" Finale *grin*) I followed the recipes exactly. I drained and dried them, added 2 tbs of olive oil, salt, pepper, red pepper and garlic salt, put them on a baking sheet in a 425 degree oven. I checked them after 20 minutes and they were sizzling away and then 5 minutes after that they were still good...but the next time I checked (after another 5 min) half of them were BLACK and charred looking! HUH?!

I'm so upset. I can't believe I screwed them up. It said to cook for 45 min or until crunchy enough. Mine were only in for 30 minutes and they're burnt!

HELP!

Hi Karen,

I have actually never made these - but, remembered an old thread about burnt chick peas.

Sorry your hard work burnt in the oven. I hate when that happens. I made these a few days back and I really didn't have that experience. Perhaps you should check your oven temp for accuracy. I liked mine really crisp so I just kept a close eye on them..they get very dark brown but none got burnt. Did you flip the chickpeas with a spatula just so they wouldn't stick to the pan? Around ten minutes in I just stirred them up and continued with the baking. Maybe that's the problem. Sorry I'm not much help. I love this snack, it's easy and good. Maybe if you have a dog you can give him the cruncy bits, or heh, maybe feed it to the birds.lol Have a good day . Suzanne

You know what I made these this w/e and although I didn't burn them, they were great when I first took them out of the oven, but I put them in a container to have another time and when I got back to them they were soggy!
