Feeling light headed?

I just went to the fridge at work to havea dixie cup (literally a shot) of orange juice. I honestly felt much better right away! But did anybody else experience light headedness? I know the juice wasn't on the diet but I thought I was going to faint. I started monday and lost 3.5 pounds already so I am not worried about the juice. It's not even something I crave or drink normally.

Anybody else feel this way?

I am VERY new here, but it sounds to me like you might not be eating enough.

I found yesterday (after being stuck in a VERY long meeting) how important it is to eat satisfying meals and snack on a regular basis.

When I started feeling a little light-headed, I was finally able to get back to my desk and had 15 almonds and some string cheese. That helped!

Maybe try eating more at your meals so you aren't keeling over before you can get to a snack? I think for me that eating BEFORE I get to the point of faintness is pretty important.

This is not unusual. I am attaching a past Dr. Agatston Q & A that reviews some common causes of headaches starting phase 1:

Q:I am just finishing day three of Phase 1 and am excited to say that I have lost three pounds. However, I have had a terrible headache for the last 36 hours and found myself dizzy tonight. Is there something I can do differently to feel better? —Molly

A: Congratulations on starting Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet. You're taking an important first step toward lifelong health.

Some dieters on Phase 1 have experienced headaches. To remedy this, make sure you eat three regular meals and all of your snacks. Snacks really are mandatory during Phase 1 for the simple reason that by starting this diet, you're making a large departure from your previous eating style. The snacks help keep your blood sugar levels steady between meals, and without them, you could derail your efforts before you even get started. Skipping them could also be what's causing your headaches. When snacking, be sure to choose low-fat cheese, nuts, or another good source of protein.

You also want to make sure that your portions are not too small. This is a common mistake made by new dieters. The South Beach Diet isn't about counting calories or limiting food intake. Instead, you'll be learning to listen to your body. Slow down, enjoy your meal, and give your stomach time to signal to your brain that you are full. Finish eating when you feel satisfied—any leftovers can be wrapped up and eaten later in the week.

Additionally, if you have limited your caffeine intake drastically or suddenly, you may be experiencing withdrawal headaches. If so, try adding one cup of caffeinated coffee back into your routine in the morning.

Lastly, be sure to drink plenty of water—eight to 10 glasses a day is sufficient. Water is, of course, essential to your health. It's also especially good for dieters because it creates the sensation of a full belly.

Your headaches should go away over the next few days. If they continue or intensify, be sure to contact your doctor.

I also started Monday and have lost three pounds. I have felt very lightheaded. I tried to eat some cheese, or some peanuts, and I think I'm eating big meals. Nothing has helped, so I'm just trying to deal with it for these two weeks.

I felt lightheaded, dizzy and sick for the first 5 days. Now, I'm on Day 8 and I just feel tired. Be patient. It'll soon go away. Before you know it you'll be in P2!

I felt light-headed and my energy seemed low for the first 3 days. I think my body was going through sugar withdrawal or something. Don't give up - it will subside.
