Thursday Phase I Journal Check In
12

Hello there! Thank you all sooo much for your well wishes yesterday. I still need to answer your posts, but wanted to get this started first. I stayed home again today, but will probably go to work tomorrow. I can't breath too well and my throat is still very soar. I'm taking the vitamin route...using Zicam zinc nasal gel, taking vitamin c, echinacea, garlic in addition to my multi and calcium. If I can shorten the duration of this then I will be happy. I haven't slept in until 11 am for AGES...sorry I'm so late today. I must have needed the rest.

For simplicity, I am more on a Phase 2 thing while I'm sick, (I had oatmeal for brunch with some herb tea for my throat). Who knows, maybe I'll even lose weight anyway? If not, I'm back on P1 for another week.

How is everyone else doing today? It's nearly Friday....what strategies do you have to make it through the weekend temptations? Remember, you ARE worth it and you CAN do it!!!

Hugs,

Suzy

I'm new to the site and to the SB diet. I started on Sunday. I've only lost a couple pounds and feel a little discouraged but I do notice my clothes fitting looser. Is it possible to lose inches and not pounds? I just plan to have lots of snacks on hand so I don't get too hungry. Going to the movies on Friday to see Shrek, it will be pretty tough not have popcorn, my favorite, favorite food.

Welcome to SB! Please don't be discouraged. A few pounds is just fine (from personal experience, I lost most of my weight in just 1-2 lb per week and that way it stayed off). Yes, you can lose inches rather than weight. Take some measurements for comparison later on. If you are exercising you may gain muscle and lose fat, but since muscle weighs more than fat, it may not show up on the scale, but your clothes will feel looser. Our bodies retain water depending on what time of the month it is, and what you've eaten the day before (e.g., too much sodium, etc). Don't be discouraged. Try taking some "foods to enjoy" (e.g. nuts) to the movie and drink some water or diet pop so you won't be hungry. Don't worry....popcorn is allowed in Phase 2! :-)

It is so good to have you here. Everyone is so helpful and supportive. How much do you want to lose?

Hugs,

Suzy

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm so happy I found this page. No one in my office or circle of friends are on this diet so I have no one to talk to about it. I'm so skeptical because I've dieted my whole life and I'm used to giving up so much. It feels weird to eat breakfast and then snacks. I can't believe that I have no cravings. It's pretty wonderful. I weigh 286. I need to lose probably 150lbs. I need to start a walking routine soon. Thought I would tackle one challenge at a time. I have been getting headaches and I think it may be because my body chemistry is changing. But I've tried to drink lots of water, I still have a couple cups of coffee in the morning but I'd be willing to switch to decaf if it would make much of a difference. I just really need to lose this weight and after reading the book it seems like this lifestyle change will work.

I am so happy you found this board! Last year I was nearly 200 lb when I finally said I had to do something. My friend was 213 and she joined Weight Watchers. I lost a few pounds on my own and got to 195.6 before also joining WW. Both she & I lost weight, slowly but surely. I have nothing negative to say about WW, but I got to my goal last December and by then I had bought the SB book and since I've always been interested in health/nutrition, I found it made sense. I was so tired of weighing food and counting points on WW that I ended up eating too much off and on over the past few months and gaining 10 lb back. I now have all the SB books/cookbook and am committed to sticking with this to lose the last weight once and for all and have a way of eating I can stick with for life. I like that you are never hungry on this, and that we have snacks which gives me something to look forward to. I like that the veggies are not limited (like they are on Atkins) and that this is a healthy way of eating. I drink coffee usually in the morning, too, and for me it doesn't seem to cause any cravings. I stick with decaf coffee, herb tea, or diet pop the rest of the day. I try to drink lots of water.

I am so happy you are here! We will be here to cheer you on and help you every step of the way. I am positive you will lose the 150 lb and will feel better. I am sure there are members here who have lost a great deal of weight (I lost 64 lb total at my goal...but many have lost much more) and can give you lots of encouragement and advice.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon! Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Thank you, thank you for all the encouragement. This is very exciting. I'm so happy to have someone to talk to. I'm so happy for you on your weight loss. What is this Journal Check In? I think that regardless of how much weight I lose in Phase 1, I will continue the journey through Phase 2 because it is a ton more healthier then what I was eating. I'll be sure to check this site often and garner the knowledge and advice everyone has to offer.

Hi again Tricia!

The journal check in is where people list what they are eating for the day. This is what helped me lose weight consistently by journaling...writing down every bite I took which made me think twice about cheating. It helps to list your meals, snacks so fellow SBers can see and get ideas from each other...or help point out something you may be eating or not eating that may help you. It is also just a place for people to say how they're doing during Phase I and so we can get to know each other...give advice on shopping for foods, recipies, etc. I will be continuing this through Phase 2 & 3. I think it definitely helps. :-)

Hope your day 5 is going well!

Good luck if you go to the pot luck! I work at a college myself...I know how it is when they bring in tempting treats. Those treats will be there in the future, so don't worry if you can't eat them tonight. You're doing so very well....good idea sticking to veggies, hummus....Maybe there will be lower fat proteins too? Let us know how it went!

Suzy

Hi Maryann! Good to see you eating healthy veggies again...gives me motivation to do the same! Have a wonderful evening. I'm probably going to force myself reluctantly to go back to work tomorrow....at least it's a Friday!

Hugs,

Suzy
