So, I decided about 2 weeks ago that it was time to get serious about getting healthy, and I was just waiting for the book and cookbook to arrive and to get some things over with/out of the way (stuff that totally brought on stress eating and I knew if I'd started Phase 1, I would have failed miserably). While I'm waiting, we get back the bloodwork from DH's annual physical, and his cholesterol is outta sight (he's Hispanic and has always been "high-normal"). The doc says it's got to come down 50 points or he'll need to start meds.
So, needless to say, I decided for him that he's coming to the beach with me. He's really not happy, but I'm hoping once he starts seeing and feeling the results he'll turn around. Wish us luck? Also - if anyone has brought a reluctant hubby along with you, I'd love to hear about favorite recipes/strategies.
OK - I should go back and monitor his progress. He's in the middle of his farewell tour with refined carbs....hopefully he'll be totally sick of them by tomorrow night!

Hi again,
Best wishes to you and your hubby as you do this together. I think that is wonderful! My husband is thin, works out, and is in good health....but I had no problem getting him on the SBD with me. I just read some facts and figures from the book, and he was on baord. I am the one with the cholesterol troubles, which was my main reason for the SBD. I had started Lipitor, but that is actually something Dr. A takes himself and isn't against. In any event, I didn't like my cholesterol numbers even with the smallest Lipitor dose, and I did not want to increase my dosage. I stopped the Lipitor when I started SBD, just to see what happens. I go back in September for blood tests to get my numbers checked.
My best suggestions are to not let your husband (or YOU!) get hungry, and substitute with SBD options when you are craving sweets. Definitely have some sugar-free fudgesicles on hand if you like chocolate! Phase one was bad for me - I moved to phase two after one week. Had I not done that, I'm not sure I'd have stuck with this way of eating overall. But that's just me.
Good luck, and I know you'll get help here if you need it.

Hi Michelle,
I'm happy to see you again and glad you'll both be starting tomorrow.
OMG, I didn't even think of chili!
Hello,
My husband and I have been on SB since Feb. We have both lost around 15 lbs. He has high cholesterol this is why we started SB.we both know it is a healthy life style and feel better. The problem is my husband is a Police Officer and works 12 hour shifts. I get up and fix him a healthy breakfast. He does not eat a snack and won't take one with him. If he does eat one it is peanuts (not a good choice) He eats with the other officers for lunch, sometimes it is a good choice sometimes not so good. Then I will fix a good heathy supper. I always ask him what he ate for lunch to kind of keep him aware of his eating habits.
He lost about 60lbs on Atkins in 2001, and gained about 30 of it back. I only lost 20 and gained it all back. But he still thinks like an Atkins dieter (peanuts, cheese, lunchmeat as much as you want)
I guess what I am trying to say is my husband is not fully on the wagon, but I refuse to let him fall completely off. Because I feel that alittle control is better than none at all.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Cindy
I think you just need to continue doing what you're already doing. Just provide him with the information and the healthy meals that he eats at home. He's got to commit and there's not much you can do besides sitting down and explaining why it's important to you that he do this. But, the bottom line is he's got to want to do it.
Good luck!
Yes Cathy I agree.
He does try for the most part. I don't really know how motivate him to do better when he is at work. At least he only works 3 -4 days a week. I am also trying to get him to exercise more. I think because the weight is not falling off like it did on Atkins, he is getting bored with it. But I make a new recipe every few weeks and he likes that. This week I am going to try the Mexican Lasagne.
Thanks,
Cindy
