Phase 1 Confustion?? CL - Help!

Maggie, Cathy, and Karen,
Ok, I don't think I'm the only one pondering this question (but maybe I am???)...
As you know I've been on the beach and had great success before (about 2 yrs ago) and now after much back and forth my dh and I are almost back to the beginning (how and why we got here is irrelevant, because either way we are here!)
My question is this...how long is phase 1? The way I remember it was phase 1 lasted 2 weeks but no more than 4 weeks, and you could always go back to phase 1 to "regroup" if you got a little out of phase 2 or 3, but it seems to me that now the recommendation is not to stay in phase 1 much or at all, it seems that phase 2 is more recommended than phase 1? Has there been a change in the program since I was last truly faithful to it? Everyone knows you lose the most weight in phase 1, and it always seemed to be helpful to go back to phase 1 after not being true to SBD WOE, and I know phase 1 is to manage cravings, but it also seems helpful to kickstarting the plan.
Please let me know if I'm misunderstanding phase 1 or if there has been some major changes to the program? And if so, should I get a "newer" version of the book to brush up?

Hi Melissa - welcome back!!
Many things have been clarified for us in the last few years. What you are reading here about phase 1 is right. Phase 1 is recommended for two weeks only. It turns out there is no benefit to following it for more than 2 weeks. In fact, it's recommended that teens and nursing moms avoid phase 1 completely and start with phase 2. Phase 1 is for detoxing ourselves from 'bad' carbs and phase 2 is the real weight loss phase.
Now, if you were off the beach for a long time, you may want to revisit phase 1 to get cravings in check and to re-learn the rules. Stay on it a full two weeks or

Thanks for the update! I will do phase 1 for the next two weeks then move onto phase 2 and hopefully I will recapture the success I previously had!
