I am having a really hard time not having any sugar!!
What is especially hard, is having a toddler running around with all sorts of sugary stuff (cereal, snacks, etc.) I promised her we would go to McDonalds for bfast, and she wnated a cinamon roll. I cut it up for her, gave it to her--and then when she was done, there was a bite (ok, 3 bites) left, and I ate them! WHY DID I DO IT?!?! This is the 2nd time I have had a little bit of her sugary stuff. Am I doomed? Is this REALLY bad for Phase 1? (I am on day 4)

Well, let me start out by saying you didn't ruin the last 4 days with 3 bites of a cinnamon roll. However, continuing with this type of eating will set you up for failure.
Many of us here have adopted healthy eating for our entire families. The first step to take is to get all the junk out of the house. I know, even if the whole family is eating healthy, there will be some foods that you will have 'just for the kids'. This is where willpower comes into play. Eating 3 meals and 3 snacks each day that are SB friendly will help - choose from the Foods to Enjoy list. You CAN do this!!
Here are some links that may help:

I really feel your pain. I have a 3yo girl and 6 yo boy.
Another idea to keep the 'fun' of going to McDonalds (I am assuming your DD likes to play in the 'playplace'?) is to eat right before you leave, and only bring her a snack..making the play time the emphasis. Some MCDonalds have iced coffees (be sure to sweeten it yourself and use milk), which are legal..make it a treat for you, too.
As the other moms said, try to get everyone on beard with eating healthier...maybe next time you could get your daughter apples as a treat...they have those little bagged apples at McDOnalds...and manderin oranges at Wendy's.
It's been hard for me often times to make food the NON emphasis, with my kids, my friends and my husband. Socializing always seems to revolve around food...GRRR.
Good luck!

I agree with the last poster's comment on watching supersize me. I do still eat salads from Mcdonalds and Wendys...but fries? FORGET IT...my kids dont eat them either...
One part of the movie that really made me think is how much fast food companies try to make fast food 'fun' for kids..it's where happy times are..which will in turn make growing children and young adults think of how 'fun' it is to go to Mcdonalds, even long after they have outgrown the playplace tunnels. Even though the actual fun is long over, a mind continues to relate the establishment as fun, and we continue to go...It's very sad, actually, that things like that go on without consumers stopping to think about it.

Hi Laura,
Willpower is the decades old reason why people can't stick to diets. The good news is this woe offers so many options that it's hard NOT to have willpower. Be sure to vary your food choices from the Foods to Enjoy lists and you'll never be bored.
You will be surprised in a couple of days when those sugar cravings REALLY DO go away!! Stick with us, you CAN do this!!
Take a look at these tips for success for extra motivation:

Laura,
I have no willpower. Zero. Zilch. I also love my sugar. I feel for you!
I don't think anyone has mentioned SUBSTITUTION yet. When I was very early into this way of eating, I needed to have healthier options ready when my sugar cravings hit. Sugar free fudgesicles were my saving grace here at home!
Do not leave your house without legal SBD homemade peanut butter cookies in your purse, diaper bag, car, whatever. If a few bites of a sugary treat are staring at you, don't feel bad. Don't eat it and then beat yourself up for lack of willpower. Think, "Hey, I can have a peanut butter cookie - YAHOO!!!!" It's a mind game. Don't think of what you cannot have, think of all you CAN have when eating this way. If peanut butter cookies aren't your thing, maybe a sugar-free Werther's Original would do the trick for you.
I am about 3.5 months into this, and I promise you that a cinnamon roll would gross me out at this point. I would crave a legal treat before that any day. This from the mom who used to finish the junk on her kids' plates while cleaning up after dinner. I'm telling you....YOU CAN DO THIS! I had my few slip ups at the beginning, but I've still lost weight, as well as 2 inches off my waist.
I'm happy to be your cheerleader anytime you need one. :)

p.s. I also watched and learned from Super Size Me. Very interesting movie. I will admit though to being an "almost anything in moderation" kind of girl, so I don't freak over fast food 3-4 times per year. Every day - or even every week - not such a hot idea!

Laurie,
Great post! I am sure Laura and others will benefit from your great ideas!!
Thanks Laurie!
I do need to try to make those PB cookies...and trust me, I have been stocking up on the NSA fudgsicles and popsicles!! Oh, and is it ok to eat the FF cool whip by the spoonful? LOL I did feel like crap after eating it, (the real stuf!) so I do know that something is working!! Thanks so much for the cheering...I need it!
Where in OH are you? I am in OH too!! (Columbus area!)

Laura, just don't leave the house unprepared again, and you'll be just fine. :)
I am in Beavercreek, which is just a bit east of Dayton. Very close to Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Wright State University. Too bad we aren't closer, we could meet for a SBD lunch.
Really, I'm sure you're doing great. Just think long-term and realize that you really won't want junk before long. I went to the county fair last night and about got sick just looking at the food. There were even 2 new, unhealthy foods I hadn't heard of.....deep fried Snickers and Spam Twinkies. The Snickers deal is self-explanatory (so very wrong, but self-explanatory), but I have no clue what happens with a Spam Twinkie....and I probably DON'T want to know anyway!
