Where does it come from????

Mix depression over being unemployed and recently ending a long term relationship with having to cancel my gym membership and eating comfort food and all of a sudden there are an extra 60 pounds!! Well, it's not really all of a sudden. I could see the weight creeping on but felt helpless to stop it. Little by little things stopped fitting and I started buying larger sizes. I am now at the heaviest I have EVER been (250lbs)and i'm frantic. My whole usmmer has beeen spent covering up and wishing ill upon skinny women in little wisps of clothing.

But..I have decided to do something about it. Tonight, I am heading to the grocery store to purchase Phase one foods. Then, I will purge my fridge and start Phase one tomorrow morning. I was going to put it off until the weekend but decided that there is no time like the present. PLease give any insight, support, wisdom you can to someone who is scared to death!

Thanks,
Moe

Ohh my god, that sounds like me without exercising before. I am also 250lbs starting a diet for the first time in my life. I always been the fat girl and just stayed that way. All summer, I have been covering up, wearing long sleeve shirts, short sleeve shirts with jackets in the heat just to look slimmer. I felt awful. I wish you all the luck and please let me know how you are doing. I am on day four and so far I've been pretty good, I been too stressed and depressed to worry about the food. Its just grabbing what is in the good food list and running with it.

Teressa,

The difference with me is that I was always the athlete. I never had to worry about my weight. I stayed thin and toned because I was working out and competing everyday. Until I went to college....once I stopped participating in sports, I didn't know how to stay in shape (I had only ever exercised for my sport not merely for my health) and I was still eating anything I wanted figuring it would melt away as it always had. I gained about 40 pounds in my 4 years at college. After that, i'd yo-yo diet and lose but put it right back on. I did SBD about a year ago and got down to 180 (which is great for my 5'11", curvy frame)but abandoned it once I had lost the weight and figured my "diet" was over. So, i'm back and focused and ready to commit for life!

I wish you SO much success and I hope that your stress and depression is not long-lived. PLease keep me posted of your success (I don't say progress because i'm sure you'll have nothing but success)and feel free to drop me a line whenever you need some moral support. I also started a journal (at the bottom of the main page) to keep myself motivated. Check it out if you want.

I just had a really funny thought....we might have been covered up all summer, but we'll be the only women in halter tops and mini skirts in the snow! :-)

Hi Moe,

Snap out of your depression and take care of yourself. You're on the right track with this diet and eating healthfully.

You can still indulge your sweet tooth with yummy chocolate sugar-free fudgsicles! Hope to see more of you here.

Also, come to the 'Job Seekers' Board' for great support and meet lots of great women who know what you're going through.

hello moe!

my best advice is to make a 3 day menu...b'fast lunch and dinner...i find that if i plan my meals...i won't be hungry and frustrated...standing in front of the fridge....staring at the bad stuff!

best of luck...you'll feel great soon!

Thanks everyone for the words of support. I'm getting back on track. I've started going to church again. I've been on South Beach for 3 days and I've started a new long term temporary work assisgnment that has th possibility of being permanent if everything works out. And maybe once I drop a few pounds i'll be confident enough to start dating again.
:-)

Thanks again!

I know how it feels to be depressed, I was almost homeless last year b/c I was out of work and had no one to turn to; please do not become depressed and give up, I almost did and it still affects me now, always paranoid about not having a job. Moe I know you can do it, you can make it regardless if there is not a job now there will be. I know its easier said than done, especially when you cannot afford the SB diet foods but make pots of food, you make all types of yummy things. Like Tacos in bulk sans the package seasoning and the shells. Make shrimp creole and you can freeze that and make a pot and it can last a month, beef and veggie soup. I am all creative when it came to eating on 30 a month. Let me know if this helps.

Teressa,

If you can eat the SBD way for only $30 a month....fill me in!! That would be a huge help. I find eating non-healthy is so much cheaper (unless you count the bigger sized clothes you are forced to buy). The tacos are a great idea. PLease let me know the shrip creole recipe and any other yummy/healthy/CHEAP recipe you can think of!

Thanks,
Moe

Moe, try not to get depressed.

For the beef stew - You will need veggies - you can get the frozen without corn and potatoes, frozen spinach, tomatoes paste, striped beef cut small, I like to get the cube steak and dice into small piece. You need sea salt to taste, oregano (hopefully you already have this, sauté beef with a little olive oil-add onions. When the beef is brown not done, add all your other ingredients. Add tomatoes paste, tomatoes sauce, frozen veggies (I like adding two bags (get the ones with okra, black beans, or black eye peas, pearl onions (love those). Plus the veggies are like 2.49 – 2.99 a bag. I like to have everything simmer slowly and then add your seasoning. You have a nice meal, you can add a salad. The best part, after the first day the soup is more seasoned and taste better.
