Today is day 7 of Phase 1 for me. I weighed myself for the first time since the day I started and i've only lost 5 pounds... I wanted to blame it on my new scale, but I all week i've been saying that I didn't feel or look like i'd dropped much weight. COnsidering that I started at 250 pounds and I have been following Pahse 1 without cheating, I expected to lost more weight than that (I lost almost 11 pounds in one week a year ago when I did Phase 1). I keep reading posts of people that are losing 7-13 pounds their first week. What am I doing or not doing? What can I do for week two that might help? I want to stay motivated, but it's hard when things seem to be going slowly...

Good morning! I am sorry to hear your frustration. First of all, 5 pounds in 7 days is not a bad start at all! I took a look at your journal and noticed that in the beginning of the week you were eating full fat cheese and real bacon - and you still lost 5 pounds! Now that you have a better handle on the Foods to Enjoy and Avoid list, you are on the right track.
Some suggestions to get you through the next week? Fruit flavored yogurt is for phase 2, so switch over to nonfat plain yogurt and flavor it with extracts and splenda. I also noticed that some days you were really hungry, but it didn't look as though you were eating enough. Make your snacks more of a mini-meal rather than just something to throw into your mouth. Peanut butter is more satisfying if stirred into some yogurt, rather than straight from a spoon. Another strategy we use when our weight loss is slow is to cut back on cheese and cut back or eliminate nuts - both are calorie dense.
You are on the right track - stick with us, we'll get you through this. Vary your food choices, drink lots of water and eat frequently. In one more week, you'll be enjoying some fruits and grains/starches.....something to look forward to.
HTH,
5 lbs is a LOT for one week.
Thanks to both of you. I just shared my loss with my mom and she said the samething. I know 5 pounds isn't bad, I guess I had just psyched myself up for more loss. And, I will definitely take cl-Karezz's advice...cut back on cheese and nuts, go for leaner meats and cut out the flavored yogurt. Hopefully that will help as well.
I am a little confused about not eating enough. Can you give me an example of a snack that would be appropriate? I feel like i'm always eating and eating a lot, but if I need to be eating more...even better :-)
Let's see how week 2 goes....
P.S. I have a brunch to go to on Sunday. I'm a little nervous, but I asked the host to tell me what she was serving so I can try to figure out my "eating) plan of action before hand. I also think i'm going to eat a big salad before I go so i'm not hungry...
Moe,
In general, your plan looks great. There were only a few meals in your journal where it looked as though your meal wasn't enough - satisfying enough - for you. If you are really hungry on a day when you have just yogurt and turkey bacon for breakfast, maybe you should eat a more substantial breakfast. There was a day where you listed 3oz of steak for breakfast and nothing else. Peanut butter alone is probably not satisfying as a snack.
Remember, we should eat when hungry and eat until satisfied (not full). Choose from the foods list when you need something extra and you will be fine.
Hugs,
Thanks...breakfast is hard because I have to leave for work so early that I have to take it with me. I will make sure that I am eating more substantial meals and snacks to avoid hunger.
Plugging on....
Just a thought.......
Have you tried the Veggie Quiche Cups To Go? They are easy to make, freezable, and fast to microwave when on the run. Give 'em a try!
