Hi all. I'm happy to have discovered this board for tips and support on the SBD. I've been going since Friday the 13th.
I've been trying to lose my (third and final) babyweight since the summer of 2004. After numerous attempts - losses and regains -- I still had 40 of the 45lbs left to go. So, I'm back to trying to lose weight that I've already lost (20lbs of) and mostly regained TWICE this year. It's a terrible pattern and I'm very afraid that this yo-yo'ing is impacting my health more than the 40 lbs. is hurting me.
I have to think about this for the very long-term. As in, I need to change my eating patterns for life because I obviously have a problem with overeating. I'm determined to make it to Phase 3 on SBD and stay healthy. But I'm finding the quick-loss Phase 1 feels a lot like my former restrictive diets -- from which I swan dove right into my former overeating junk food habits - only with more furor. I'm afraid I'll be so desperate after a few more days of Phase 1 that I'll overdo Phase 2 and end up yo-yo'ing again.
Today is day 11 and I'm not doing so hot. I'm v. hungry and feeling kind of out of it and head-achy. I read the other headache post, but I'm not a caffeine drinker. I feel like I've got low blood sugar, but I've had breakfast and a cheesestick today.
I will say that I'm enjoying the dinners very much - I've been eating lean steak, chicken, salmon, beans and having lots of cauliflower mash, broccoli, asparagus etc. and baked squash. That's been great. The lunches have been pretty tasty too when I've had the time to make them special. Today I have a no-starch SBD frozen meal and a veggie salad planned.
But the breakfasts and snacks are really getting to me. I'm really tired of eggs even with the nice veggies and canadian bacon and even the quiche cups. When I can't take the eggs anymore, I've been having a tablespoon or two of peanut butter with a glass of lowfat milk - but there's no fiber in there. I miss my hi-protein Kashi cereal so much and it felt like it was pretty good for me. I'm planning to go back to it on Phase 2 but for some crazy reason today, Friday seems really far away.
Did any of you (who made it to the bottom of this looooong post) go through this in Phase 1? What helped you to go on and succeed in Phase 2? Thanks for your thoughts.
(Sorry for the whine. It's the low blood sugar, I think ;-) --Nlee

Hi. I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. Those symptoms in phase 1 usually disappear within the first 3 or 4 days.
Could it be you aren't eating enough? It is very important in phase 1 to keep our blood sugar levels stable by eating frequent meals and snacks throughout the day. Are you drinking plenty of water? How about coffee? Coffee is permitted in moderation in phase 1 - you may be getting headaches if you eliminated caffeine.
You don't need to eat eggs for breakfast. Leftovers and soups make great (and easy) breakfasts. Here is a thread with a bunch of ideas:
Bored with Breakfast? Tired of or don't like eggs? Breakfast ideas
I also want to let you know that if you are unhappy with phase 1, there's no reason why you can't move to phase 2. It's better to move on and to eat SBD-friendly phase 2 foods than to feel too restricted and stray from the diet entirely. Here is some information to consider when starting phase 2:

Hope this helps and that you feel better soon! Let us know what you decide to do.
Hi Nlee,
Welcome!
Karen and Cathy, thanks for the kind messages and encouragement. I was thrilled to read all the breakfast ideas and will make an effort to branch out for the rest of this week.
Knowing that I can go to phase 2 if I'm really losing it makes me feel better - probably better enough to stick with phase 1 through Thursday. What you said makes a lot of sense, of course it's better to go to phase 2 than to go off the plan completely. So, I'll try the new breakfast ideas, see how I do and if I'm still hurting, I'll eat some hi-protein cereal or an apple.
So now I've gotten these encouraging ideas, eaten lunch, and I'm going to do something positive and take myself out of the office for a power walk. Thank you! -Nlee
