Hi everyone, my name is Trina and I just joined. I have never been on the south beach diet before, and only recently heard about it. I have around 25 pounds that I'd like to loose before the summer, and I am hoping this will help.
I just started the diet yesterday, it has not been as hard as I thought it would be. But its still hard to say no when people offer me sugary things!
I am wondering if I am eating a little too much, so I am just going to write down what I ate today, and see if anyone can tell me if I am doing this right/or what I am doing wrong.
So, for breakfast I had..
3 slices of Turkey Bacon
For lunch..
1 can of peas, and 1 sugar-free Popsicle(heard that those were good for when I get sugar cravings)
For a snack later on..
Some peperoni slices, a few olives and some slices of cucumber in vinegar.(yummy!)
Another Popsicle (I know I should have only had one, I'll try and stop eating so many!
And at around 5:00 I started feeling tired, and got a huge sugar craving.. so I went into the freezer and pulled out the ice cream, but, i only took about a teaspoon of it, which was enough to make the craving go away. I know one tea spoon doesn't do much, but I am still disappointed in myself for taking a little, I will defiantly try and stop 'cheating' tomorrow and for the next 2 weeks.
And for dinner, I had spaghetti sauce (which is a lot of ground beef and tomato sauce) it doesn't taste the same without the spaghetti, but it keeps me full.
Does that sound OK? anything I should add/remove from what I am eating everyday?

Hi Trina,
Welcome!
Have you read the book or our "Getting Started" thread in this section?
Hi Cathy, thanks for the reply!
Well, I do feel stupid now! I did read a guideline for food on the south beach diet on another site, and I thought everything I had was OK for phase one, but I guess I'll have to change a few things.
The pepperoni I bought was fat free, but I can wait with those until phase 2.
I naturally do not have a very big appetite, I just eat a lot of sugary things normally then healthy things, which is why I gain weight. If I eat too much in the morning, for whatever reason, i always feel sick, which is why I only ate the Turkey Bacon. I'll start eating 2 slices instead of 3.
How does this sound for tomorrow?
Breakfast - 2 slices of turkey bacon
Lunch - 1 can of Tuna, and some broccoli.
Snack - Some olives, cucumbers, and beans. (I'll space those out between lunch and dinner)
Dinner - Some lean chicken breast, and tons of vegetables.
I have not yet bought the book, I plan on doing that this weekend. I was also wondering how much exercise is recommend in phase one? Is a 15 minute workout in the morning, and a 45 minute walk in the evening, almost everyday OK? My family likes going on long walks on the weekends, which usually end up lasting around 1 and 1/2 hours. Usually I don't go, but from now I'll try and be sure to go every weekend.
That sounds much better.
Hi Trina and welcome!
You've gotten great advice already. I just wanted to add that even if you have a small appetite it is very important to eat regularly throughout the day. The goal is to keep your blood sugar at a constant level and to keep your metabolism going.
Let us know how you feel today and if you have any more questions!
HI Trina! I'm new to SB as well (Today is day 3I) and I'm feeling pretty gross lol can't wait until I am feeling better...hopefully in a day or two :)
I am on day 5 and I have to tell you...I am eating more each day than I have eaten in a long time! Here was my menu for today...
breakfast: 1/2 c egg beaters w/ onions, mushrooms, peppers
snack: low fat string cheese, celery
lunch: salad, fat free cottage cheese
snack: low fat string cheese, celery
dinner: 1/2 grilled chicken breast, 6 grilled shrimp with grilled asparagus, yellow squash, green onions, 1/4 c fat free mozzarella cheese
snack: sugar free fudgesicle
That has been a sample menu for me for the last 5 days...with a few variations of course. This about twice what I usually eat, calorie-wise...but nutritionally...much better! I have lost 2.5 lbs already!
Don't starve yourself! You should never be "hungry"!! Good luck!!

Welcome to SBD (sorry to hijack another thread) but I wanted to point out that cheese, even lowfat, can be a SBD buster.
