Not doing well, but will keep trying

Good morning! Just a quick note to let you all know that I am down a total of 1.8 lbs since starting on 12/26. I have not stuck to the program like I should and am trying again, starting today. It is extremely hard for me to get rid of the carb cravings - I almost feel like I am grieving (does that make any sense).
At any rate, I'll be back later to post. DD#1 is ready to start school (an hour early!) so we are going to do that! Have a great day, everyone!

"I almost feel like I am grieving (does that make any sense)"
That makes TONS of sense. I felt the exact same way. Here is a copy of my very first post here, almost exactly 2 years ago:

As you can see, I was talking about literally crying over giving up my favorite comfort foods of childhood and family traditions.
Two things: 1)its ONLY two weeks. Then you CAN have carbs! Just substituting the whole grain variety. "Carbs" are nothing to fear on SB. Its not a matter of "the less carbs you eat, the more/faster you lose" So don't feel like when you are on phase 2 you will STILL be depriving yourself of carbs. You won't - I had a full 3 servings per day, and now on maintenance have 4-5 servings per day. Pasta w/dinner, homemade whole wheat bread with soup for lunch, sweet potato gnocchi, sweet potato fries, english muffins, cereal, etc. In the grand scheme of things, phase 1 is SUCH a short time. I've been eating SB-style for 2 years. 104 weeks - phase 1 was only 2 weeks of that, or 1% of my time on South Beach! And 50% of my time as been on phase 3, where I don't really limit my servings of grains at all!
2) If you really, really miss grains enough that its going to make you quit - then move to phase 2. Phase 2 is the "real" weight loss phase, and is where you will spend most of you time anyways. Its better to move on early than quit all together.
Hope that helps some. But yes, you can feel that way and still succeed - I did!

Go for it 100%!
Good Luck...
I have been on Phase 1 since 12/27; almost 2 weeks for me. I agree, the first few days were VERY hard. I missed bread, pasta, rice, fruit. What I found very helpful, is that I cleared out a shelf in my fridge, just for me. I prepared, and went shopping all by myself (no kids) with my south beach handbook in hand, and bought all kinds of things. Salad, cheese sticks, candian bacon, eggs, jello, pistachio nuts, cottage cheese, whatever was allowed on the list. I found a few quick recipes, so I could replace the "snackish" things I knew I would need. I made some sugar free jello, for my sweet tooth. I have learned by doing SB, that I was very much sugar addicted. Well, two weeks in, I feel strong and in control. I don't get cravings ever! I do find myself getting a little nauseus, which is a sign that my body is HUNGRY! I eat small meals throughout the day, and frankly, I've never eaten healthier. I have lost 12 pounds, and I'm so happy to be moving to Phase 2!
YOU CAN DO IT! Set yourself up for success, and it's just two weeks!!
Best of luck
Diane
