New to SB and not sure

Hi I am new to the SBD. I started yesterday and have read a lot about it before. I have read that headaches are normal the first couple of days and that drinking lots of water will help. Yesterday i had V8 juice for breakfast with cottage cheese (non-fat) then for lunch I had a small grilled chicken breast on spinach with a vinageret dressing(just a tiny tiny bit) it isn't my favorite but didn't want to use ranch, for a snack before lunch I had string cheese (part skim) and then I had celery as a snack after lunch. I had another piece of grilled chicken and steamed broccoli for dinner with 2 slices of non-fat american cheese and a cup of milk. I had a sugar free fudgecical (don't know how to spell it sorry) for a snack later that night. I drank 8 bottles of water and still had a huge headache.

I slept really good last night though which I haven't done for a long time. Then this morning I had more V8 juice and spinach quiche from the receipe in the book and had 2 of those. I had string cheese for a snack and for lunch I am having the south beach tuna salad and lots of water.

Does this sound okay or is there something I need to change. I read a thread that said cheese was not suppose to be eaten very much but I thought you could eat it all you wanted in phase 1 so I don't know what is true now. I want to do this I have about 20 lbs to get rid of.

Any advice would be great. Thank you in advance.

Kelly

Do you drink coffee? Sometimes people think they have to cut out caffeine, which causes a double whammy of sugar *and* caffeine withdrawal. If I were you, I'd try having a cup of something with caffeine to counteract the headache -- coffee, a diet soda, etc. V-8 and cottage cheese both have high levels of sodium, so you may have been reacting to that as well. Keep chugging that water.

As far as cheese goes, it's a good protein food but it can cause stalls for some people. Keep an eye on your intake. It does not count towards the 2 servings of dairy that you should be having each day -- some people get confused by that. Make sure you're having milk or yogurt every day, studies have shown that it enhances weight loss efforts, plus of course you need the calcium anyways for your bones.

Hope this helps -- you'll feel better soon, I promise! :-)

Just wanted to pop in and welcome you to the board! I'm only on day 9 myself so as far as reliable info, I wouldn't be the one to answer ya lol but I can tell you that I had some killer headaches and they did eventually go away (after about 5 days for me) and I am feeling incredible now and thats only after 9 days I can't wait to see what the future holds :)

Thanks for the advice. I haven't had any pop or caffeine for almost a year. I only drink water and sugar free lemonade since I stopped drinking pop. I guess i'll just have to increase my water intake. I just wanted to make sure I was doing it right. Thanks for your help.

My headache was so bad yesterday I felt like I was going deaf in one ear. I am glad that they will go away. They haven't been as bad today but I still have one and don't feel that great. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the advice. I am a little overwhelmed so it helps to know I am doing okay. I can't wait to lose all of the weight I need to. Glad I can have a little ranch on my salads I haven't been using any. Guess I missed that when I was reading through stuff. Thanks for your help.

Hi Kelly,
My hubby and I started Phase 1 yesterday as well. I had a dull headache yesterday afternoon as well. But so far today, I'm feeling ok. I am still drinking 1 cup of coffee a day as well as 1 diet soda a day. I feel that I need that 'kick' of caffeine when I first get up!!!

I'm very happy that I haven't been the least bit tempted so far. (Keeping fingers crossed on that that I can stay strong.)

I've been drinking loads of water too...but that's something I'm accustomed to doing. I probably drink around 60oz. of water a day and I was doing that prior to starting SB anyway.

I tried the ricotta creme dessert last night...hubby liked it, but I ate about half of mine. Just couldn't get past the texture of it...LOL!!! So, tonight, I will substitute a sugar-free popsicle/fudgesicle instead. Or, I might make a cup of hot cocoa to get some of my dairy in for the day. That's probably what I'm lacking most, dairy...

Thanks so much for the tips from everyone!!! It's nice to have an online support group!!!

I only drink water and sugar free lemonade and I think I just need to up my intake of water. I drink lots anyways and did before I stated SB as well. I stopped drinking caffeine about a year ago because I used to drink only pop and nothing else.

Good luck to you.
