Hi!
I just started the SBD today! My DH and I are doing it together. A friend of mine from another board got us interested, and now we are on our way!
Anyway, I tried to search for some answers to a couple of questions, but was feeling overwhelmed, so I am hoping it's ok to ask them here.
Here is our chili recipe....is it ok?
1 lb extra lean ground beef browned with onion
1 packet of chili-o
2 large cans of light red kidney beans
1 small can of tomato paste
Do those ingredients work? Also, is there a limit to how much you can eat in phase 1?
Here is our pasta sauce recipe. Is it ok?
1 large can tomato puree
1 8 oz can of tomato sauce
1 small can of tomato paste
2 tbs of Splenda
garlic
basil
oregano
2 bone-in pork chops cooked in the sauce
And one other question please, is egg-drop soup something we can have in phase 1?
Thanks so much!!

Heyya Carla...I am pretty new to this and I'm sure that someone more experienced will pop in and give you the specifics but I can tell you that you'll need to look at the ingredients in the can and see if they have any type of added sugar, corn syrup, frutose etc...not the nutrional label as veggies have natural sugars and those are fine its the added sugar from the ingredients you are looking for :)
Hi Carla,
First off, here's a recipe for Egg Drop Soup:
Stephanie - You did a great job.
Thank you all so much!
Yes, Chili-O is the seasoning packet! LOL sorry.
I will check my cans. I hope they are ok because it's snowing like crazy here today and I really want chili!
I did so well yesterday and I am so pround of myself. I was fighting the urge for chicken and cheese taquitos last night like nobody's business! But I tell you, this plan really is a doable thing.
I am glad I found all of you. It's going to help so much.
My DH is going to be so happy about the egg drop soup.
Thanks again!
ETA: I just checked my bean can. They are Hanover Redskin Kidney Beans Light Red. The ingredients are kidney beans, water, sugar, corn syrup, salt, onion powder. There are 3 g of sugar and 22g of total carbohydrates. Are these ok?
If they are ok, is there a limit to how much we can eat?
And if they are not ok, is there a brand that someone can recommend?
Thanks again so much!!

Big ole negative on the beans, sorry...see the part where it says sugar, corn syrup? uhhuh...you guessed it....no good. It can't have any of that stuff in the ingredients...sorry :( (I had to buy new ones too). The first time I went out looking for stuff w/o added sugar I was looking on the nutrional label and found nothing. DUH...I didn't realize that there are natural sugars and that is what shows on the nutrional info...I don't recall what brand I ended up buying but they are out there in the regular store.
Hope you don't get too much snow (where are you from?) its just cold cold cold here in Michigan.

Looks like it's steak and cauliflower fauxtatoes tonight instead!
I'll have to look for some other beans.
I am from PA. It has actually stopped snowing, but I have two toddlers, so I am not feeling like bundling them up and taking them to the store!
I buy either Goya or the store brand beans and find that they do not contain added sugars. You'll soon get the knack for reading labels!
I have some of the Chili-0 packets. That is French's brand chili spices in a packet. They have added sugar, but no info on how many grams in the nutrition label. So I'm assuming that they aren't legal.

But thank you for letting me know. I won't use the ChiliO ones.
