Day 1- I ate a lot :(

Hey all, please help. First when I go on a diet it makes me crazy for food, like its all I can think about, and it doesn't help that I was home today with my baby and the fridge was right there luring me in. Well, I tried to stick to the South Beach Diet foods, please help me with this:

Breakfast: coffee with a little milk (1%)Turkey roll up(2pieces) and a string cheese inside

Snack: one more piece of string cheese

Lunch: canned light tuna in water over salad greens with the Balsamic Vinegar dressing recipe of South Beach

I was still hungry so I ate four!(I know- I don't know what is wrong with me) more turkey roll ups with Cilantro mayo (recipe of South Beach)

2nd snack(I know- I don't know why but I was hungry- I ate some cucumber and a tomato with a little balsamic dressing

Dinner: 2 turkey burgers with some avacado and cilantro mayo on top

Throughout the day I drink lots of water or plain tea

When I tried South Beach before this is what happened, I think I eat a lot more to make up for the lack of breads and sweets which is my total addiction. Seriously, giving up sweets and pastas and breads is like quitting smoking for me!

Just hang in there.

When I did Phase 1 I did not worry about how much I ate - I just stayed away from carbs! That is the key of Phase 1. So if you are only worried about detoxing and not so caught up on numbers on the scale, then I would just eat until you are satisfied off of the foods to enjoy list. Don't worry about how many roll up you eat. It is MUCH better than eating a bag of M & M's!!!

For me detoxing was the key - the weight loss was just an added bonus.

Good luck to you!

Lisa.

Hi and welcome!

Lisa gave you good advice - when you are on phase 1 you can't deprive yourself. When you are hungyr you must eat - just choose wisely from the foods to enjoy list (which you did!).

Be sure to get 2 cups of dairy in each day and a minimum of 4.5 cups of veggies.

You're off to a great start! Let us know if you need anything!

Thanks Lisa, I am making the Quiche Cups today, I will have one for breakfast, that will be a good start. I didn't think of it as a detox, somehow I just kept thinking NO SWEETS!??? But its worth it, and I got some sugar free fudgecicles last night- and I only had one! Well, thanks again. --Robyn

Thanks Karen, I just had 2 Quiche cups for breakfast, I think I will definently eat more veggies today rather than all that cheese and meat. I am not a big meat eater anyways, I like veggies more. The one thing I can't give up is my coffee- I have started to use sugar free creamer though- thats okay right? Thanks for the help!--Robyn

Honestly I don't think you ate all that much. I ate more than that the whole time I was in phase 1 and phase 2. In fact - you were MISSING some things - you need to have 2 servings dairy, and you didn't have any. You are also allowed a serving of nuts and 100 calories of sweet treats (the last two are not "required", but even if you had all those extra things - you still would have been "on plan") Also, I would add some beans (1/2 cup) in there somewhere - like on your salad. They will really help keep you full longer.

The recommended creamer is Land-O-Lakes Fat Free Half and Half.

I realized the first few days that my " hunger" was more like the habit of opening the fridge and looking for something to eat, after a few days this will go away...I also wanted to tell you that after the breakfast you posted its no wonder you are hungry! I dont think you are eating enough protein, haw about some canadian bacon and a omelet with veggies and some 2% cheese? this type of breakfast really stays with you for a while.

Good Luck!

Although I have only been on the SBD for now 7 days I have learned one thing...EAT!!

When you are hungry, EAT. Don't limit your intake at meals either. (except for those few foods that you should limit, like fats and oils and nuts). I went from normally having 1-2 eggs to having 3 egg omelettes because I needed it to keep the hunger away, and that is in addition to having canadian bacon, a glass of milk and a glass of V8!

My dh actually was a little surprised over the weekend at the amounts I was eating. But I showed him that regardless of the portions the numbers on the scales are moving...DOWN.

I never thought I would be able to stick with the SBD, simply because when it comes to food I have no willpower, I am a food addict, but this diet, even with the strict Phase 1, is so easy because I am not limiting my intake. Yes, I know in P2, as I introduce more carbs I will have to watch the intake, but I have learned how to keep hunger at bay by eating high protein and high fiber foods.

YOU CAN DO IT!

Thanks for the reply, yesterday I didn't have really anything in the fridge till later in the day, and the turkey and cheese was all I really had. But today is better, I went grocery shopping and got lots of good food. Anyways, I am confused about the coffee creamer and the dairy requirements, in the South Beach Diet book it says avoid all dairy in phase 1, so how can this be? And yet it says cheese is good? It said no milk. Thats why I got the sugar free coffee creamer. But if I can have either that would be great. Thanks- and is it okay to really eat whatever as long as it is phase 1 foods? Like today I had the 2 quiche cups for breakfast, and then about 2 hours later I got hungry and had a small salad (good mixed greens), plain tuna, a spoonful of feta(low fat) and 2 tbsp of balsamic vin. dressing I made. That was what I was going to have for lunch, but I wanted it early. Now what do I do the rest of the day? Thanks- Robyn

Hi Robyn,

There have been changes to the diet since the original book was published.
