Hi everybody! I'm so glad that I found this board. I cruised around a little bit, and it looks like there are a lot of experienced, knowledgeable people here. Briefly, here is my background. I have 9 month old twins, and am in the process of trying to lose the rest of my pregnancy weight. I was down to 131.5 (yeah, I actually count the halves...) and was stuck there for the last two months. Nothing I did would get me past that plateau. I decided to do SB. I will have been in phase 1 for a week as of tomorrow. The first few days were tough, but it's getting so much better. I didn't think I could do it--I'm a carb-a-holic! Oh yeah, I'm 5'5", and my pre-pg weight was 122 lbs. I'd like to get back down to at least that weight. Here's my question, in the week I've been on phase I, so far I've lost a whopping 1/2 lbs. That's it. On the one hand, it's the first weight I've lost in two months--I had hit a pretty strong plateau. On the other, I was really hoping I'd lose at least two pounds the first week. Anyone else have a similar experience? I'm committed to continuing, just wondering what is going on.
Oh yeah--if anyone is wondering, I haven't cheated. It's been hard, but I haven't. I have wondered; however, if maybe I'm not getting enough calories? I'm just not hungry...all that protein and fiber... I truly feel as though I'm getting enough food because I feel good and full.
Thanks all!
Robynn

Hi Robynn,
Welcome!
Hi and welcome.
Hi Kim,
Any idea what kind of weight training? I don't really know much about resistance training at all. I do work outside the home in a high level position and I have two babies at home. I've tried to figure out a time--even 30 minutes a day that I could carve out for exercise. It's just not happening. Unfortunately, I am up at 5:00am every morning and not home at night until about 6:30. The twins go to bed around 8pm and I am working again until 10 or so when I fall into bed. Maybe there are some moves I can do here and there when I just have ten minutes or so? Nothing too intense since I wouldn't be in workout clothes. On the other hand, I'm wondering since it wouldn't be consistent and structured if it would even do any good.
It is true. The last ten pounds I have to lose may very well be vanity pounds. However, they have left me in a size 8. My clothes--including an entire wardrobe of suits are in a size 4. I can't stand the thought of buying ALL new stuff. Ten pounds has meant the different of two sizes for me. Of course I wonder how much of this difference is simply due to a change in my "body shape"--I've heard that some women will lose all of their pregnancy weight only to find they still will not be as small because their hips have moved????
I'm trying to hard, but I'm feeling so defeated!
thanks for your help,
Robynn
Robynn,
You might try a toning DVD. Other members can give you some recommendations, but there are some "10 minute solutions" DVDs out there, and other similar titles, that might fit with your schedule. I have tried the Shape Bikini Camp (something like that) DVDs which have 30-minute combinations of toning and cardio, and I thought they weren't too bad. They require you to have small hand weights and a resistance band.
Good luck!
Deb
Robynn,
Hi and welcome -- congratulations on your twins, they must keep you really busy!
Just chiming in on the weight training. I do resistance training at Curves which only takes 30 minutes. I recently read an article in Fitness mag (check their website) that said recent studies show you could weight train one day a week with heavy weights (between 15-20 pounds) and see a real difference. Do 3-5 reps per set and 3 sets. That means do 3-5 bicep curls on one arm, then 3-5 bicep curls on the other, and repeat 3 times. You can do biceps, triceps, deltoids (overhead shoulder presses), squats. And only once a week -- can't beat that.
I understand that your job can be demanding, I was in that situation as well after I had my first son, but I firmly believe that your health really has to be a priority, not only for you but for your children.
Hi Robynn,
Welcome!!
YUP on the 1 time a week!
When I trained like that I definitely got bigger. You won't be HUGE, but for a female looking to lose weight, lifting low reps/high weight is probably not the best route to take.
4-6 reps muscle build
6-8 reps power
8-10 reps muscle strength
10-12 combo strength/endurance
12-15 endurance
