Confused by vinegar!

Hi ladies! My DH made me dinner last night while I was out, and he used rice wine vinegar to make the salad dressing, thinking that balsamic would have too much sugar for my diet. However, I read the label to the rice wine vinegar, and sugar was on the ingredient list, with 4 grams indicated on the nutrition label. I then checked the balsamic, and there's nothing else but balsamic on the ingredient list, however there are also 4 grams of sugar listed on the label. Can I use the balsamic to make a dressing, since there's no added sugar? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I started mulling it over and then confused myself. I am only on day 2 of P1, so I'm very green. Thanks for your help!

Any type of vinegar is acceptable for South Beach. Because it's used as a condiment and in small quantities, it doesn't matter what the sugar content says - most vinegar will have natural sugars. If you want to be really strict, you can avoid those that have sugar added as an ingredient.

Thank you all for the help. It's so great I can come here and get the instant gratification of a response!! The rice vinegar I have is "lite", and says low sugar and low sodium, and doesn't list HFCS as an ingredient. I am going to feel free to use it as a condiment, it was really yummy salad dressing my DH made me! Thanks again ladies!!

Hmmm...I've never seen 'seasoned' rice vinegar. I guess that's a good thing. ;-p
