On Day 3 Phase 1 -just a few questions

Hi, I started SB on Sunday and I am so glad I found the SB board because it has answered so many of my questions, I think I am following the plan well, but I am not sure so I hope you can answer my questions. I am not a big veggie or egg eater, so far I have eaten the western omelet every morning and mixed mushrooms and peppers in with it, and I actually like I just hope I can stick with it week and a 1/2. I've also had turkey bacon with the omelet only 2 pieces as it says in the book, but I afraid it's bad for me, is it? For lunch and dinner I have been eating foods that are allowed on the diet I just haven't followed the meal plan. I have had the snacks allowed (cheese sticks, peanuts, Jell-O). Since I'm not a big vegetable eater I have had a salad with every meal to help me feel full and at dinner I will roast the vegetables I like. Am I doing ok?

Also I have read that you shouldn't be hungry between meals and sometimes I am, so can I have 1 cheese stick and nuts to get me over the hump? I am hoping that being on this diet will help me to learn to like veggies and so far I am eating allot of them considering how few I ate before.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi and welcome! I'm glad you found us!

I am not a big veggie or egg eater, so far I have eaten the western omelet every morning and mixed mushrooms and peppers in with it, and I actually like I just hope I can stick with it week and a 1/2. There's no reason to eat the same breakfast every day. In fact, I encourage you to add as much variety to the plan as possible - it will help keep you on track. Have you tried the veggie quiche cups? The recipe is in the book and they are great to make ahead when you need a quick breakfast. Also, there's no reason to eat eggs every day. Here is a link with tons of other breakfast ideas:

I've also had turkey bacon with the omelet only 2 pieces as it says in the book, but I afraid it's bad for me, is it? Turkey bacon is fine. The only reason you may have concern is if your doctor has recommended a low salt diet (as turkey bacon is rather salty). Other breakfast meats to consider are: Morning Star Farms Breakfast Patties (soy patties), Canadian bacon, lean deli ham.

For lunch and dinner I have been eating foods that are allowed on the diet I just haven't followed the meal plan. There's no reason why you must follow the plan exactly. The meal plans can be used exactly or as a general guide. When I started SB in (over 3 years ago), I followed the meal plans from the book for about 3 days, then I started mixing it up. You'll get the hang of it.

Since I'm not a big vegetable eater I have had a salad with every meal to help me feel full and at dinner I will roast the vegetables I like. Am I doing ok? That's great! Another way to get more veggies is to drink a glass of V8 each day - it counts as a veggie serving. Also, don't forget your beans - it's recommended to get 1/2 cup per day and they count toward your veggie requirement. Add the to salads, have hummus, make chili, etc.

Also I have read that you shouldn't be hungry between meals and sometimes I am, so can I have 1 cheese stick and nuts to get me over the hump? Yes. It's very important (especially in phase 1) to eat when you are hungry. Here are some other snack ideas for you: smoothie (made with skim milk, plain yogurt, splenda and extracts or sf syrups), roasted chick peas, veggie strips dipped in hummus or salad dressing.

I am hoping that being on this diet will help me to learn to like veggies and so far I am eating allot of them considering how few I ate before.

Hi and welcome to the board. I just wanted to tell you what I have for breakfast almost every day and I never tire of it. I mix 2 eggs with a little cinnamon, vanilla extract and a packet of splenda and make it omelet style. When it is cooked I put some sugar free syrup on it and I swear it tastes like french toast. I have it with 2 slices of turkey bacon....yum!! Good luck !
