Hi everyone,
I don't know what the weather is like in your neck of the woods, but at my house here in So Cal today it is 97 degrees and I am melting! Whenever the weather gets hot I always crave a frozen Starbucks drink, so I made my own version. I thought it came out pretty decent, and that if there are any other coffee fanatics out there they might like to try it and enhance it.
I blended:
1 cup of milk (I use 1%)
1 tsp. cocoa powder
1 packet of splenda
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. instant coffee granules
a dollop of plain yogurt to try and thicken it a bit
3 ice cubes
Of course it isn't as good as Starbucks, and it's a lot thinner, but today in this heat it really hits the spot.
I hope you like it! I love smoothies, so if you have any yummy recipes please share them with me!
~Kelly

Hey Kelly,
Where in Southern Cal are you? In my old hometown I know its 97 today (Palm Desert) I'm guessing you've gotta be in the desert somewhere!

I am melting away in the San Fernando Valley. I can't believe that our temp is the same as Palm Desert! I love it out there, we vacation there quite a bit. Are you planning on doing any shopping at the outlets?
Have fun, and try and stay cool!

Wow, that's really unusually high for you guys this time of year, huh? Its just the norm in the desert LOL! Actually we don't live there anymore - we live in Houston, TX now. But we lived in Palm Desert from 1998-2006 and it will always be "home" to me. I still check their weather and read the Desert Sun everyday - its pathetic how much I miss CA!
We're 70 and rainy here (thunderstorms, humidity, etc.) So different to go from the desert to almost tropical!

I make the same thing for breakfast on days when I need something fast and easy to go. I use plain yogurt but sometimes to switch it up I put 1/2 cup of ricotta in it instead of the yogurt. It gives it a thicker texture I feel. I agree it isn't as good as Starbucks but it is not bad.
