Doc wants me on Atkins - Help

Can someone here tell me how many carbs a day I am suspose to eat on the phase one part of this program? My doctor told me to go on Atkins and of course as you all know that is 20 carbs a day for two weeks increasing 5 for a week, etc.

I am really thinking about coming back to the SBD way of living. It just seems so much more healthier. I am not a meat eater and most of my diet is made of fat. I have been on the induction phase 4 days and have lost only .3 lb. I have tried SBD before and seem to be the one and only person out here who does not lose weight on it. I know I am bound to be doing something wrong.

The doc put me on Atkins because my blood sugar levels are way too high. My siste swears by this program and teaches it to the city employees where she works. If someone could answer my question about the carbs I would sooooo appreciate it.

We don't count carbs on South Beach nor is it a low-carb diet. We eat complex carbohydrates in the form of whole grains and fruits. We also watch our fat intake and focus on avoiding saturated and trans fats.

Here is some more information from one of the South Beach Diet nutritionists

I suggest you find a new doctor. No doctor should recommend high amounts of saturated fat to a patient, as well, ketosis is an unnatural state. Go with your gut instinct. South Beach is much healthier.

Hi - just adding my 2 cents here. I did Atkins for awhile a few years ago. Yes, I did lose weight but the minute I tried to incorporate any carbs back in, I would gain. I gained everything back. I cannot follow that diet again. I don't see how a diet that does not allow me to eat an apple and pushes unlimited fats as opposed to reduced fat cheeses, mayo, etc can be healthy. I am not losing as fast with this woe but I feel much better and I love the variety. Good luck to you.
