Does anyone know if Whey Protien can be used on the south beach diet? I am a bodybulider, and just started phase1 in 2 days I feel different and look different, although I am having some cravings.
I take whey protein after I lift but was wondering if I can still take that?

Whey protein is very high in calories and not recommended on South Beach.
Not able to keep up with my workouts as intense as I would like, feel really weak today and a bad headache which I suspect is sugar withdrawls, I had those when I quit soda about a month ago..
Thanks for the reply I feel a little emabarassed though I didn't know this was an all womens network!
Hi,
You're right...we don't count calories.
Hi again,
Please don't be embarrassed to ask questions.
I found this in a chat transcript from Dr. Agatston, apparently he is okay with whey protein. Here is the link:

And here is the question/answer:
HealthyPerson: Are there any of the Whey Protein Powders that could be used in small quantities to flavor smoothies?
Dr. Agatston: Yes, you can definitely use whey protein powders to flavor your homemade smoothie. Make sure you measure it out, as overdoing can lead to a weight stall.
Now if you are a "serious" male body builder - I'm sorry, but some sliced turkey ain't gonna cut it. That's fine for us women who are just trying to tone, but if you are truly going for major muscle mass (the kind us women CAN'T even build without extreme measures) then I don't see anything wrong with the whey protein. I think its important for us to use our own judgment and adapt South Beach to our specific lifestyle. Does a stay at home mom need something extreme like the whey protein, probably not. A professional body builder, maybe. (I know you may not be "professional" - just an example) As Dr. A said - just don't over do it. You should be able to figure out what is appropriate based on what your exercise regimen is. I know when my dh was in college and did football and track and was training he often ate well over 5000 calories a day. Between his age, his gender, his exercise and his muscle mass his metabolism was on fire. So only you know where you are at and what is appropriate.
