A few questions from an almost-newbie

Hey everyone!
My husband and are are toying with trying the SBD but I was wondering if you could help me with a couple of questions first.
1) Are processed cheese slices allowed in phase 1? My stomach doesn't tolerate most cheeses - I can have a little reduced-fat feta or 1% cottage cheese, but that's about it. I can, however, eat the fat free cheese slices from Kraft and will often grab a slice or two as a quick snack.
2) On one of the 'allowed foods' lists I noticed it said you should limit having nuts to once per day. Are we allowed to have a serving of nuts and 2 tbsp of natural peanut butter in one day, or should we limit it to one or the other?
and finally...
3) Are beans allowed more than once per day? I love chickpeas and kidney beans, especially in salads - I even snack on plain chickpeas sometimes. The food lists say to have 1/2 to 1/3 cup of beans at lunch or dinner so I just wanted to clarify.
Thank you for your responses! I spent some time poking around these message boards last night and learned a lot about the SBD. A good friend tried it a few years ago at her doctor's recommendation and lost about 25 lbs, and has kept it off, so my curiosity is definitely peaked!

Hi and welcome!
Yes, you may have lowfat or fat free cheeses on South Beach. Look for varieties that have 6g of fat or less per serving.
As for nuts, you may have one serving per day whether it's nuts or nut butters.
It is suggested that you have 1/2 cups of beans per day as part of your 4.5 cup veggie requirement. I would suggest limiting beans to one serving per day so that you can get a variety of nutrients from the rest of the veggie servings. Additionally, they contain more calories than other veggies.
Hope this helps and let us know if any more questions pop up! I hope you'll be joining us!
FYI - Here's the nut serving
Hi,
Welcome!
Here is the list of beans.
It sounds like you have a great attitude! One day at a time is the best way to do it.
Some of us have been here for quite awhile - I believe Cathy has been here since '03? I've been here for over 2 years. And yes, many of us have had quite a bit of success! You can read about my journey and see my before and after pics from the link in my siggy.
Good luck!
