Tomato Soup?

I was thinking it would be great to make some chili with extra lean ground beef and kidney beans for dinner, but my recipe calls for tomato soup as the base. Can I eat tomato soup on p1?

Thanks!

Sorry, canned tomato soup is not allowed.

You can easily use canned tomatoes and/or tomato paste (look for brands that have no added sugars).

Thanks for posting that link again. I tried one of the recipes, I think Maggie's the other day. It seemed spicy, but the flavor was kinda blah. I used one pound ground turkey breast, 1 pound ground sirloin, a big onion, 2 green peppers, some canned diced tomatoes and tomato sauce (no sugar added, low sodium), kidney beans and black beans. I used chili powder, cumin and cayenne (I think cayenne) as directed in the recipe. Something was missing....definately needed more salt b/c of the low sodium stuff, but something else was off too. What's your secret ingredient to give it more depth?

Hi,

A few things that I throw in my chili when I think it needs jazzing up are a can of chopped green chilies and/or a tablespoon or two of unsweetened cocoa powder.

Cathy,

The Cocoa powder seems like an interestings twist. I wondered for years what my my fathers chili taste the way it did (very yummy) only to discover just w/in the last few year that his secret is coffee of all things.

I always add vinegar or a lot of hot sauce (which has vinegar as the base) or a bit of both to brighten the flavor at the end. To me chili needs it. Plus, I probably 2-3X the amount of chili powder than in normal recipes. 1 or 2T just won't do it for me!

Hope that helps!

Lisa.

I was also going to suggest some instant coffee powder.
