2 questions please!

Hi there: I am getting ready to start phase 1 and want to get my shopping list ready. I had two food questions...

1) Are fat-free turkey hot dogs OK? Or any turkey hot dogs?

2) What about taco seasoning? I was thinking I could make a salad and add some ground turkey or chicken with taco seasoning and reduced-fat cheese...

I don't eat red meat or pork, so I am trying to figure out some interesting options for myself. Thanks for your input and help!

Hi,

I think hotdogs are an occasional phase 2 food only. Also, you should make your own taco seasoning. I think there's a recipe somewhere on this board, but I just use cumin, chilli power, paprika, salt, pepper, garlic and cayenne pepper because we really like spicey food.

Hi,

Welcome!

Since hot dogs are a processed food it's recommended that you wait until phase 2 to eat them.

Be sure to sub Splenda for the sugar in that taco seasoning recipe!

Since you don't eat red meat or pork, I thought I would tell you what's gotten me through the past few days. I made a nice pot of chicken chili. I'm not a big fan of eggs so I've been eating it for breakfast - sounds crazy but it's pretty good! The chicken chili, if made with olives, beans, tomatoes, onion and bell pepper will give you the required veggie servings plus your protein. If you like a little tang, be sure to season with fresh cilantro.

If I actually used a recipe, I would post it but I just kind of throw it together.
