a bowl of cereal! I am sooo craving the Frosted Flakes that are sitting so pretty atop my refrigerator. Ugh! I'm trying my best to avoid the kitchen altogether because I know if I go in there I'll start justifying a bowl of my beloved flakes lol The toughest part of this is gonna be giving up my cereal. I'm a HUGE cereal junkie. Most of the time an afternoon or latenight snack for me has always been a bowl of cereal. It's about the only time I eat anything sweet b/c I'm not big on cookies, cake, and that sorta thing.

I sooo hope I don't give in b/c I'll feel SO guilty if I do!

DON"T DO IT!!

Though you cannot have Frosted Flakes, you can have cereal in Phase 2 - and you'll enjoy it so much more if you wait!

Can you give the box to a neighbor or friend?

I wish I could give it to someone, but it's for the kids. I'd have a revolt on my hands if I gave their cereal away lol

What brands of cereal are good for Phase 2? I may go ahead and start buying Phase 2 cereal to get the kids used to it so I won't be tempted by anymore sugary cereal.

Fiber One Honey Clusters and the South Beach cinnamon square cereal are 2 that the kids might like and that are legal for you in phase 2.

Okay - these are NOT SBD friendly, BUT,

Have you ever gotten your kids the Envirokids cereals? They are much lower in sugar, have no high fructose corn syrup, etc. Again, they still aren't South Beach friendly as they are a bit too low in fiber, but overall they aren't horrible for the kids. Some are better than others, mine have to pick ones with 8g sugar or less (just like the SBD rule - but I don't make them stick to the fiber rule)

For example the Envirokids frosted flakes has 2g fiber and 7g sugar with no high fructose corn syrup and the regular Kellogs has only 1g fiber and 11g sugar with high fructose corn syrup as the 3rd ingredient.

It may be easier to get them to switch to these as they still look like cereal for kids but much healthier for their growing bodies and minds!

If I can just make it to Phase 2 where I can have cereal again (even if it's not my usuals) I'll be doing great! Cereal has been my only real sacrifice with SBD. Sweets have never been a real weakness for me. I have to really be in the mood for cookies, candy, or cake. I swore off sugary drinks nearly ten years ago and now cannot stand the taste of soda unless it is diet. When we get fast food my husband has to taste the drinks if they're not marked because one sip of Dr. Pepper makes me gag lol I've also always hated how sugary drinks make you more thirsty than you were to begin with, to me anyway. Anyway I'm getting totally OT!

Thanks for the cereal suggestion. I will definitely check that brand out. I try to limit the amount of sugar my kids eat and I don't let them have sugary drinks that often at all. They either drink diet soda, milk, or water. The only one I have any trouble with is my oldest son because he is SUCH a picky eater. My daughter and youngest son are a piece of cake. She likes healthy food and he'll eat anything you give him lol Just to give you an idea how picky our oldest son is... He will not eat fried or brown rice. Nothing but plain white rice. He doesn't believe the others are real rice b/c they aren't white! He loves mac n cheese unless it has melted cheese on top. Sometimes I will make the Kraft mac n cheese then put it in a dish in the oven with shredded cheese on top. He won't eat it until he picks the cheese off! So with him I choose the lesser of two evils -it may not always be the most healthy food but I'd rather him eat it than nothing at all ya know?

PS...

I made it through the Frosted Flakes craving without giving in! After about 30 mins of wanting them so badly I suddenly had no urge at all :) Wheeee!

Me too. I started the South Beach Diet 1 week ago today. It hasn't been too bad if my husband and kids don't eat those things in front of me.
