My weight loss journey started 14 weeks ago with diet and exercise... we did a 10 week game amongst friendsin which I went from 249.5 to 234 then gained back over Easter break to start a no bread/carb diet with another friend at 238.

After 5 miserable days of that I had lost down to 235.5 and I discovered South Beach is not only similar to no bread/no carb BUT it is designed for prediabetes which I have...

So, two weeks later.... here is the weight loss update I just posted to my friends/family!!! I AM SO EXCITED and I don't know WHY I didn't google up the ivillage board for south beach sooner!!!!!

I stuck to the diet religiously, straying ONCE with some pizza on day 12 (pre-AF day yuck).

So, I want to offer encouragement that is does work - there were just a few days here and there I was miserable with it but it feels Soooooooooooo good to have done it and been successful!!!

My next weight loss goal is the HALFWAY point!!!

I weighed in today the end of phase one of South Beach at 223!!! I started South Beach two weeks ago weighing in at 235.5 - that's 12.5 lbs!!!

214.5 is half way from 249.5 to 180!!

That is.... only 8.5 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to tell you guys, I do not "feel" like I've lost 26.5 lbs!! I know it's true, we've weighed religiously and on the same scales and I ate like a rabbit for 2 weeks lol, I am wearing shorts/pants/bras I've not worn in years so I know it's coming off but I still feel, well if possible MORE BLECH and flubby (that's my fat, frumpy, lumpy, flabby term) than before!! How is that possible???

I Hope to reach my halfway point during our next 6 week weight loss game - we started today since we all weighed in!! ;-) And I had told my sister I was going to lose 20 lbs before Tyler's graduation party but that would mean 4.5 more lbs this next week (we said that when I weighed in at Mela's before doing the no bread thing and I was 238). I don't think I can do phase one another week, I have got to get some fruit or something else in, so I am going to phase two for two weeks then perhaps BACK to phase one for two weeks...

P.S. I am at 238 in my siggy pics. ;-)

Hello Jenniemadsen: Congrats on finishing Phase one! I've been on Phase 1 for 5 weeks now (I'm currently in the 6th week) and I've only lost 8 pounds. I'm getting a little depressed now. I'm sticking to the diet religiously - the only thing I cheat on is sugar-free chocolates - do you think this could have anything to do with my slow weightloss? The first week I lost 4 pounds and was really excited, but the excitement has gone downhill from there. 0 pounds week 2, 2.5 pounds week 3, 1 pound week 4, and 0.5 pounds week 5.

I couldn't find anything about eating sugar-free chocolates while on phase 1, so maybe that is where I am going wrong...

Thanks for any help or suggestions if you have the time :-)

I'm sure a CL will chime in here, but I just wanted to point out the importance of moving into Phase 2. Phase 1 is definitely not meant to be long-term. It's just meant to get rid of your cravings so that you can listen to your body and know when you are legitimately hungry and need to eat. I wonder if maybe your weight loss is slowing because your body is not getting all the nutriets from fruits and grains that it needs. It may recognize that it is not getting what it needs and so it's holding on to what it's got! You can transition into P2 slowly, adding 1 fruit and 1 grain at a time. It's important for your health!

Hi and congratulations on your weight loss so far. However, it's time to move onto Phase 2. You probably aren't losing weight at this point because your metabolism is slowing down. You NEED to add fruit and grains to your diet in order to lose weight.

Here's some information that should help:

I have prediabetes (insulin resistance) diagnosed in 2001. I can't take metformin (tummy trouble) but it is "corrected" during pregnancy. So, the SBD really really works for me.

I would move to phase 2 like everyone else suggested, give yourself a break, shake things up a bit, give your body something to work with, often a shift/change can trigger new metabolism and weight loss!
