Hi....I'm new to this board and to SB! I think it is going to be great for me, because I am almost certain I am totally addicted to sugar. Anyway, I am also nursing my 2 month old baby, but I decided I really needed to do Phase One to get over the serious sugar cravings I developed during my pregnancies. I think in the long run it will be healthier for my baby too, if he has a mama who isn't eating tons of sugar every day. I am keeping a close eye on milk supply. I'm almost certain it won't be an issue, because I always have lots (he is my third baby in a little over three years!). :-)
So....here are my questions. I am at the end of day two, and had some serious crummy feelings tonight. I was starting to get a headache and felt generally gross and grumpy. I read about what to do on the site, so I went for some kidney beans, then had some other items listed below.
I feel much better. However, now I'm a little nervous about the amount of food I ate today. Can someone tell me what they think of my menu? This is a big deal for me, and I just want to make sure what I am doing is going to bring success. I am SOOOO tired of being chubby and tired and sugar-crazed! So I want to do this RIGHT!
Here's my menu for today:
B: Three eggs scambled with green and red peppers and onions
S: Grande Sugar-Free Vanilla Latte w/ skim milk
S: A few almonds
L: One can of tuna, onions, lettuce, sprinkling of pine nuts, 1 T. low-fat mayo in a high protein/ low carb wrap (I know this isn't technically phase one, but the wrap has so few carbs that I didn't think it would be a big deal, right or wrong?)
Low-fat mozz cheese stick
S: SB peanut butter cup
D: 1/2 c. cottage cheese, 1 serving sugar snap peas (raw), 1 V8 Juice
An hour later: 1/2 cup kidney beans (rinsed), 1 T. feta cheese, Balsalmic vinegar, 1/2 sun-dried tomato, 1 T pesto
Dessert: 1/2 c. ff ricotta, 1 T. almond butter, 1 packet splenda
Lots and lots of water...probably 16 cups.
I don't know if it matters or not, but I am 5'6", weight 175 and my first goal is 150.
Thank you so much for any help you can offer!
Jess

The wrap is definitely NOT ok. High protein/low carb wraps mean there's a lot of processed ingredients. We're looking for high fibre, whole grain wraps in P2. In P1 you can wrap things in lettuce leaves or just eat the salad filling out of a bowl.
Also, I don't think you're getting 4.5 cups of veggies.
thirdly, you NEED to move into a full phase 2 if you're nursing. I know nothing about babies and nursing, only that it is definitely not recommended to do P1 while nursing.
Hi Jess,
Welcome!
Thanks for your comments. I'm really bummed about not being able to do Phase One.....oh well.
About the wraps...since I'm going to do phase two... They have 8 grams prot., 19 grams carb, 14 grams dietary fiber, and 1 gram sugar. (Edited to add: they are made with oat fiber, whole wheat flour and soy flour, among other things.) Can I eat them?
Thanks again.

A CL will probably jump in shortly, but you will probably need to post the ingredient list for us to know for sure. Welcome, and I look forward to seeing you around the boards. The people around here are amazing!

Hi,
This isn't the best choice.
Hi Jess,
Just popping in to say welcome!
Okay--thanks for the information about the tortillas. I'll look for a better one.
Also, thanks for the welcome! I have learned so much more than I did by reading the book just by checking out these boards! You all have this stuff DOWN. :-)
I wanted to say hi Jess! Congrats on our new little one. Three in just over three years? You have a house full!! Do you have boys? girls? both? I have a 2 year old boy and a 1 year old girl.
I noticed on your first menu that you didn't have some lean protein with dinner. I think that would really help. Maybe a chicken breast or some fish.
When I was nursing, I know that oatmeal was also recommended to keep the milk supply up. Since it's allowed in phase 2, you might want to try that. There's a yummy recipe for baked oatmeal (you can do a search for it) on the board. I love it. It's easy to pop out of the freezer and into the microwave in the a.m., which sounds just perfect for you!!
Anyway, Good luck on South Beach! My DH and I are both eating this way and it's working great!!!

Hi Carla,
Thanks for your message and for the suggestions. I think you are right on about the lean protein. It is so hard for me to eat a lot of meat, but I'm working on it!
Also, I love oatmeal, so I will definitely try the recipe you suggested. It sounds great.
My daughter will be four in November, my son will be two in June and my new baby son was born on February 24. Yes, I have my hands full! Three is enough for me.... I just have to convince my DH!!! ;-)
How long have been on SB? I wish my husband would do it with me. I really dislike having to pack his lunches with Doritos and Oreos. He is a terrible junk food junky, but you would never know it by looking at him! Maybe he'll change his ways when he sees great results with me.
Thanks again for welcoming me!
Jess
Hi Jess,
I have been on SB since the end of January. You know, it's funny, but I can't even remember what it was like to eat any other way. I mean there are certain foods that I do miss, but like I try to sit and think about what our dinners were before, and I can't even remember what I prepared!!
I know all about temptation. Believe it or not, my DH and I own a pizza shop!!! Talk about hardship!! Well, more for my Dh who is there around it smelling it all day every day!! But he does well.
Here's the link to the baked oatmeal recipe. Last time I made it, I threw in a few handfuls of frozen blueberries and there were so delicious! I am making some again this week, and I think I'll try strawberries or blackberries.
Anyway, good luck on the SB. This board is so wonderful. The CLs really know their stuff and are so helpful with everything, as are lots of the members here.
