Hi....I'm new to this board and to SB! I think it is going to be great for me, because I am almost certain I am totally addicted to sugar. Anyway, I am also nursing my 2 month old baby, but I decided I really needed to do Phase One to get over the serious sugar cravings I developed during my pregnancies. I think in the long run it will be healthier for my baby too, if he has a mama who isn't eating tons of sugar every day. I am keeping a close eye on milk supply. I'm almost certain it won't be an issue, because I always have lots (he is my third baby in a little over three years!). :-)
So....here are my questions. I am at the end of day two, and had some serious crummy feelings tonight. I was starting to get a headache and felt generally gross and grumpy. I read about what to do on the site, so I went for some kidney beans, then had some other items listed below.
I feel much better. However, now I'm a little nervous about the amount of food I ate today. Can someone tell me what they think of my menu? This is a big deal for me, and I just want to make sure what I am doing is going to bring success. I am SOOOO tired of being chubby and tired and sugar-crazed! So I want to do this RIGHT!
Here's my menu for today:
B: Three eggs scambled with green and red peppers and onions
S: Grande Sugar-Free Vanilla Latte w/ skim milk
S: A few almonds
L: One can of tuna, onions, lettuce, sprinkling of pine nuts, 1 T. low-fat mayo in a high protein/ low carb wrap (I know this isn't technically phase one, but the wrap has so few carbs that I didn't think it would be a big deal, right or wrong?)
Low-fat mozz cheese stick
S: SB peanut butter cup
D: 1/2 c. cottage cheese, 1 serving sugar snap peas (raw), 1 V8 Juice
An hour later: 1/2 cup kidney beans (rinsed), 1 T. feta cheese, Balsalmic vinegar, 1/2 sun-dried tomato, 1 T pesto
Dessert: 1/2 c. ff ricotta, 1 T. almond butter, 1 packet splenda
Lots and lots of water...probably 16 cups.
I don't know if it matters or not, but I am 5'6", weight 175 and my first goal is 150.
Thank you so much for any help you can offer!

Ohhhh, a pizza shop! Now that would be tough. However, I'm finally feeling good and in the groove now, so I know what you mean about not even wanting to eat another way. I am truly amazed by how quickly my body got rid of the cravings and even the interest in processed/sugar/flour food. It's unbelievable how so soon after starting SB I feel completly in control. It was only a week ago that food totally conquered me on a daily basis. Not kidding.
Thanks for the baked oatmeal recipe. I'll be trying that soon. I really like oatmeal. In fact, before I started South Beach, I was attempting this crazy diet in which I ate oatmeal for two meals and a snack a day. Ha. Ha. I was still craving junk in betwean those meals. But I was loving the oats. :-)
Welcome, Jess! I just wanted to give you encouragement that you most definitely CAN curb your sugar cravings while on Phase 2. I started on the SBD again after I had my last baby & I started on full Phase 2 with 3 servings of whole grains. B/c you're eating so healthy & cutting out the sugar, you'll eventually get rid of those nasty cravings & you'll feel so much better! Not only that, but you'll lose weight! I've lost about 16 lbs in the last 4 months on Phase 2.
After a period of not journaling or planning out my meals (this was before the 16 lb loss I mentioned), I started noticing a big drop in my milk supply & I realized that I was eating too many salads for meals & not enough whole grains. I had to see a Lactation Consultant b/c my baby wasn't gaining weight & she said that you need complex carbs to produce milk. So that's why Phase 2 is so important. I would highly advise planning out your meals, including snacks, for the day to keep you on track.
I know you can do it! GL!!! The CLs here are awesome!
