Anyone want so share their shopping list
| Fri, 05-18-2007 - 3:17am |
For phase 1? I'm still learning the ropes. I really wanted sour cream the other night with our fajitas but I stuck to guacamole since they didn't even have reduced fat at the resturaunt and I just knew that full fat wouldn't be allowed. But I wasn't sure if reduced fat was even allowed either.
I really want refried beans too. I want to make fajitas this week and I'm trying to come up with some side dishes.
What brand of salsa is okay?
Anything else you care to share so I can look over it and see if I'd like something would be greatly appreciated.

You were probably right in avoiding the sour cream at the restaurant since it was surely full fat. You may have low fat or fat free sour cream on SB, limited to
You may also have refried beans (I buy the fat-free varieity) and salsa. For salsa, read the ingredient list on the label and avoid any brands that have added sugars or high fructose corn syrup.
Here is a shopping list that should get you started on phase 1 (also be sure to print out the Foods to Enjoy list):
I buy the PACE brand salsa, and to my knowledge, that's a good choice for South Beach.

My phase 1 shopping list for one week:
18 pack of large grade AA eggs
2 lbs mesquite smoked deli turkey lunch meat
12 pack of cheese sticks
extra crunchy reduced fat peanut butter
7 SBD meals (I did them for dinner)
chicken breast
lean ground turkey
brocolli
salad greens
green beans
celery
Lost 12.5 lbs in two weeks. ;-)
I am new, so please forgive me if I have done this wrong. I read your shopping list. What is the 7 SBD meals? Is that the Kraft meals? also, the reduced fat PB, is that ok to use instead of the natural PB? Your list is along the lines of the things I like, do you by chance still have your meal plan from the first two weeks? Thanks, Jen
You know, I don't actually know about the peanut butter, the reduced fat is just the kind I've always eaten!!
7 SDB meals = 7 South Beach Diet prepackaged meals, Walmart and most grocery stores stock them - be sure to check the back to make sure you are getting ones for PHASE 1,2,3 and not just PHASE 2,3.
I did pretty much the same thing every day b/c I knew I could stick with it and it made it "easy" to remember for the first two weeks.
BREAKFAST:
3-4 scrambled eggs, 1-2 slices thin sliced deli turkey breast meat, bottle of water or Caffeine Free Diet Dr Pepper (CFDDP)
SNACK:
slice of turkey, smeared with peanut butter and wrapped around a cheese stick, bottle of water or CFDDP
LUNCH:
big green grilled chicken salad, sometimes a tomato or two in there, 2 T fat free ranch dressing
GOOD DRESSING TIP: put the dressing to the side, dip your fork, then spear your salad - dressing on EACH BITE!!!
SNACK: vegetable and a nother cheese stick bottle of water or CFDDP
DINNER: south beach diet meal bottle of water or CFDDP
SNACK: 2 celery stalks with peanut butter 2-3 T bottle of water or CFDDP
On average I drank 50 ounces of water and 3 CFDDP a day.
Jen - reduced fat peanut butter is not recommended for South Beach, only the "natural" kind as reduced fat usually has added sugars and/or hydrogenated oils.
Also, the SBD meals are recommended by the official SBD nutritionalists as ONLY a LAST resort, not a daily thing. We should rely on whole, freshly prepared foods and just use the prepacked meals in an emergency.

I do the SBD meals once a day b/c I'd fall flat on my face any other way with this diet. Both my kids have special dietary needs and then my husband eats junk and so b/w the dye free, low sugar diet of Abigail and the higher sugar (Deklan has low blood sugar) lactose free diet of Deklan, and my SB and then my husband's dinner... dinner time is stressful sometimes and knowing that i Have my meal that is already there, ready for me makes it so much easier not to go insane. ;-)
Even things that I make that all 3 of them eat, I really shouldn't, like the turkey meatloaf has saltine crackers and corn and cheese in it. They gobble it up but I can't eat that. Same with tator tot casserole, most enchiladas.. and so forth. This way we have left overs Sean can take for lunch and I've not strayed from my diet.
Hi! I have to say that I have to have nuts (almonds or organic roasted soybeans) on my shopping list as they are nutrient dense, taste great and give great crunch and fights the 'need a little somethin', somethin'! Also, I couldnt' do this without my celery and salsa. I cut up celery in sticks, and dip into salsa to my hearts content. This way I know that I am getting lots of extra veggies, satisfying my hunger and sticking with the SB program. Good luck !!
