On Day Two

I am (as I am typing while simultaneously eating my 4th almond of 15 for my afternoon snack:) on day two of the SBD. I am doing so much better than I thought I would, as I have a vicious sweet tooth. Earlier I got the craving for a Caramel D'Light Girl Scout cookie (sooo good) but was able to resist. I love vegetables, so eating them is not a problem for me. I would say the most difficult thing to cut out is the fruit juices I love and the sweet snacks, esp. cookies and ICE CREAM (can we say addiction?). I am not sure, however, if I am getting the vegetable intake that I need. Yesterday I had two boiled eggs and 2 slices of Canadian bacon for breakfast, string cheese for a mid-morning snack, a grilled chicken salad for lunch, almonds for an afternoon snack, and broiled salmon with a vegetable medley of summer squash, zucchini and brussel sprouts. I had almost two servings of veggies (as I said earlier, I LOVE THEM) instead of a salad and veggies, but I'm not sure if that was okay. At any rate, I feel great as I am moving through day two, so if anyone has any tips for me, please let me know! I hope all of you are doing well on your SB journey...

Hi Lindsey and welcome!

On South Beach you should get a minimum of 4.5 cups of veggies per day (1/2 cup of that minimum should be from the beans/legumes family. Since you love them, it shouldn't be a problem. Try to get some at breakfast - in an omelet or a glass of V8 is a great way to do that. Also, try having sliced veggies as snacks. You can dip them in hummus or salad dressing if you like. For dinner, I usually serve a cooked veggie and a cold salad-type of veggie.

You should also get 1 to 2 cups of dairy (yogurt or milk) per day.

Let us know if you have any more questions....we love to help!

Good luck!

Hi Lindsey, and welcome! I'm sure a CL will jump in and give you the official weigh-in (no pun intended) on your menu. When it comes to veggies, you should have 4 1/2 cups per day. This can be salad, cooked veggies or raw veggies, or (up to two servings of) v8 --- anything from the Foods to Enjoy list.

If I may make a suggestion or two, Crystal Light drink mixes have helped lots of our members who love juice. Also, I don't see any dairy in your menu. You should be either drinking milk, eating nonfat yogurt or drinking soy milk.

If you look at the Getting Started thread you can get more info. I look forward to seeing you around!
