Wish me luck...I'm starting Phase 1 today.
I was on the SBD about 1.5 years ago and lost about 25 pounds. I'm convinced that it got me to a healthy weight to get pregnant (which I was really hoping for at the time).
I am now the mom of a beautiful 7 month old (almost) daughter and I really need to lose weight and get back into shape.
I am 5'2" and currently weigh 187 lbs. My final goal weight is 130 lbs, but my first step is to get down to 160. I have a long way to go, but it is very important for me that I get there. I want to be as healthy as possible for my sake as well as my family's. I will also be more diligent about excerise (treadmill and Tae Bo) beginning today.
I found this board to be very helpful the last time I was on SBD, so I look forward to checking in here periodically. Good luck to everyone on reaching their goals!
Lily

Good luck and keep us posted on how you're doing.
Hi Lily! Welcome back to South Beach. My starting stats were almost exactly the same as yours - I'm somewhere between 5'2" and 5'3" and I started at 183lbs.
When I first saw your screen name I thought "wow - MUST be a big Harry fan", but then it looks like it actually IS your name! Are people constantly commenting on it?

Hi Lily and welcome back! Good luck as you get started and check in with any questions and/or updates.
Actually, MichaelAnn, it isn't my real name--and I am a huge Harry Potter fan (can't wait until next month). I just use it is a pseudonym on the web because I am uncomfortable sharing personal details on the internet.
Let me tell you that I have read your story, etc. and you are such an inspiration. I just really have to lose this weight now--because my health is really suffering. I have high blood pressure that is medicated, was previously diagnosed with PCOS (prior to my pregnancy--I have a clomid baby), and I am hypothyroid (due to a near-total thyroidectomy). I have never been thin (since puberty), but I am really at my maximum weight now.
I'm 37 years old and enough is enough. I'm so sick of being overweight and not being able to find anything to wear, etc. I just hope that my willpower stays strong--that has always been my downfall.
Thanks to everyone for the welcome and the encouragement! So far, so good...
Hi Lily, and welcome!
I think it's easiest if you are in a situation where you can literally empty the cabinets and fridge of any non-SB food that you might find remotely tempting. Then, if you want to cheat/ treat yourself, you have to make a special trip to do it, so you might find it easier to find something else to satisfy your desire for a certain food. There are tons of legal substitutes for things, so if you find there is something you are especially missing, post a question and I'm sure someone will have a suggestion.
I look forward to seeing you around!
Deb
Gottcha! I can't wait for next month either. I'm really upset though that I realized I agreed to go on a "girls weekend" with a few of the PTA mom's at school the weekend Deathly Hallows comes out! Ugh! I have been seriously considering cancelling - but I don't get many chances for a weekend away to "party" without the kids, so I guess I will just have to settle for starting it Monday after I get back. Though I know dh will have read it by then - I'm worried he is gonna call me over the weekend, tell me something big from it and spoil it for me!
I never thought I had the "will power" either. Before starting SB I didn't even go ONE day without eating something considered junk food. Seriously. I think the longest I ever made it on a "diet" was like 1 or 2 meals - not even full days. It was just that I never, ever felt deprived or hungry on South Beach so it was so easy to stick with it. I was able to find a healthy, acceptable substitute for almost every food I loved. So I've never felt like I am missing out on anything.
