Hello!
I think I have finally hit a point where I have realized I have got to make a change! My plan is to get rid of everything in my kitchen that is not SBD P1 friendly over the next two days and will be starting SBD P1 on Tuesday.
Does anyone have any tips on staying motivated? My husband is a fried-food junkie, and no matter how much I try, he will not eat the same things I eat. He is superbly picky and will not be doing the diet with me. He is huge on high-carb foods and sweets/junk food. Any tips??
My plan is to walk about 30 mins every day, once or twice a day if I have time, and to also incorporate some cardio/strength building exercise twice a week (to start) via a Denise Austin video that I recently purchased. I have a gym in my complex, but I am one of those people that does not like to work out in front of others (especially now that the pool is open and all those women in their teeny bikinis are out there)!
Just wanted to say hello. I am hoping that this forum becomes a tool in me succeeding. I have read the South Beach Diet original book and also just purchased the SBD cookbook.
Wish me luck!
I am currently 5'0, and I weigh about 170lbs (jean size is 16-18). I am 23 years old. So, my idea goal is to get down to 115. I have some of the jeans that I wore in high school in the upstairs closet, and those are kind of my measuring points. They are a size 7/9, so I am hoping to be able to feel confident and wear them by the end of the year.
I look forward to getting to know everyone here!
Thanks!

Hello, PCB!
Hi & welcome!
It's nice to meet you.
Hi and welcome!
I'm glad you found us! A great way to stay motivated is to visit the board frequently. Take a look at the success stories here and post whenever you have a question or need some support.
Does your husband need to lose weight? Is he supportive of your weight loss efforts? If you get all the non-SBD friendly foods out of the house, will he still be eating fried foods, etc? We have lots of sustitution ideas for "bad" foods. Let us know what you think might be the biggest challenge for you and I'm sure we'll come up with something!
Good luck as you get started and check in often!
Welcome to the board!
Staying motivated - my biggest motivation was coming here and seeing the stories of all the people who had succeeded. They were just regular people like me, so I felt if they could do it, then I couldn't make any excuses. I could do it to. Then once the weight started really coming off, that was motivation in itself. I absolutely hated the way I looked and was so miserable being tired, sick, etc. when I was overweight that seeing the scale go down and my body shrinking literally gave me a "high" that was so intoxicating it was like nothing I have ever known. That kept me going.
As for your dh, I was lucky that mine wanted to make the change with me. I would just focus on doing this for you. Its possible that once he sees how GOOD the food can be when you are "dieting", he may come around. In fact, there are many recipes on here that you could make for him that are so indulgent, flavorful and delicious - I don't think he'd guess its "diet" food. I fool people all the time. Had a friend over this weekend and made her SBD-friendly Chicken Parmigiana, fresh homemade sourdough/whole wheat bread and roasted veggies. She was in heaven - but she is the biggest junk food junkie normally. She said she was sorry that I was "blowing my diet" to have her over. I just smiled.
Also, even if you dh isn't overweight, health is an issue. The way I was eating my doctor told me I wouldn't live to see my kids graduate from high school if I kept eating junk. Scary. Dh and I have so many plans for our future together (traveling, etc.) I refused to continue to put myself at higher risk to of disease and illness and not get a chance to grow old together. I want to spend every minute I can with him, life is too short anyways to do things so dangerous to our health. Maybe if you can make him understand how serious nutrition is and its about keeping him around for a long time - he will have a change of heart?
Good luck - our stats are VERY similar. I'm 5'2", almost 5'3" and I was 183 when I started, so I was a size 16-18 as well. I was also about a size 7 in high school, but thanks to South Beach I've well surpassed that!

Hi,
I am back after about a year off from SBD. I've had a very difficult personal year but I'm really to regain some power. I'm ready to take charge of my life again starting with my health, mind, and body. I had lost about 30lbs over the past year and a half but have recently gained back 10lbs. I am still about 40lbs from my goal weight but I know SBD works and I look forward to the hard work paying off.
I too plan on starting phase 1 tomorrow. Good luck to everyone as we maintain or reach our goals.

Everyone,
Thanks so much for your responses! Between work and school it is so hard to manage everything. I actually had two days off in a row (where I had planned to start my diet) but yet another issue (car troubles, what else!) arose, and I found myself waiting for car repairs while eating the Whopper across the street. And the funny part is, the whole time I was thinking that I could have probably taken a walk or eaten a salad and stayed on the diet. Ah, what stress will do to us!
But, I blew it all over today. Decided that I would take the plunge because, sadly enough, I found an old pair of jeans in the drawer and was pulling them on (struggling and laying on the bed, etc...you know how it goes) only to stand up and have the back seam blow out. Broke down and journaled in my journal that it was not going to happen again. Went to the cupboards and put everything that I knew would be a downfall downstairs in a box and taped it up! Then, I went to WalMart and spent too much (as always) on the good stuff - celery, organic natural peanut butter, SBD dressing, salad, tomatoes, and even got the makings for what looks to be awesome "Portebello Parmesagn"... Looks so yummy I could barely contain my urge to make it for my dinner tonight!!!
So, SBD starts now tomorrow. I even got snack-friendly things for my lunches! (String cheese, cottage cheese, and sugar-free jello)...
But, I do have some questions... they have digetive friendly Cottage Cheese and pre-packaged sugar free jello. I got these because they are pre-made and easy to take for my lunches...so are these Okay? thanks!
I am not sure what "DH" is, but I am only assuming it is referring to my husband. As for him, he does not eat anything that I can see that is on the SBD, maybe except plain chicken and a plan pork chop (not sure if those are in the plan or not, I don't eat pork). The only veggies I can get him to eat are peas and corn. Most of the time it is fish sticks and french fries. Or, I can get him to eat plain chicken or pork chops. He is vey very big into potatoes, though. French fries, tater tots, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, etc. He loves fruit and takes it for lunches every day (celery, carrots, grapes, and apples). And also he eats a Peanut butter sandwich for lunch every day also, as he does not like any other kind of pre-packaged foods. He likes fast food chicken/fish sandwiches plain, but a PBJ is much healthier. So, you can see my problem! He also loves water and pepsi to drink, nothing else, and after dinner every night will either have peanut butter cookies, plain lays potato chips, doritos, peanuts, oreos, etc. He also drinks milk and won't dirnk anything but either whole milk or 2% milk. So, he is my biggest problem! :-D But, he is very supportive and has even agreed to cut out the "snacking" on the cookies and candies for the first 2 weeks while I detox... (Chocolate and Pepsi are my 2 biggest weaknesses...next to working next to a Wendys heh)
So, sorry for the very long post. Wanted to reply to everyone at the same time. :-)
Good luck to those who said they started on Tuesday. I am going to try very hard to make posting here a regular thing. I need to have someone other than myself that I am accountable for. I have tried and failed so many diets!!
I have my lunch ready to go, my workout clothes are ready to be donned once I get home from work (Even going to take the dog with me - we have a wonderful trail just moments from the house - the Virginia creeper trail). So, this will be really great and I look forward to it!!!!
I will post tomorrow and let you all know how day one went!! :-D

(Again, so sorry about the long post!!!!!!)
PCB,
Good luck (again)! I know you'll do it this time...it sounds like you've been doing some good planning.
Low-fat or fat-free cottage cheese is allowed (it counts as a protein) and so are the sf jellos. And, yes, DH stands for Dear (or Darned) Husband.
You may want to plan your days ahead of time and post them in the iJournals folder below. If we see anything that you need to change or add, we'll let you know.
Thank you guys for all the support! I made it through Day One! One step down, many more to go, but I feel much better about it after today. Here was my day:
Breakfast:
Crystal Light Energy
Small glass of fat free milk
2 eggs, scrambled, with salt & pepper
1st Snack:
Cup of cottage cheese (the low-fat version)
Lunch:
Greens salad (baby spiach, baby romaine lettuces) with tomatoes and a hard-boiled-egg (white part only) with SBD branded Ranch Dressing
1 cup sugar free jello
Handful of salted peanuts (hope these are allowed, wasn't sure)
2nd Snack:
Rest of peanuts (about 1/2 of a handful of them)
1 stick of mozzerella 2% string cheese
3rd snack:
stick of mozerella and 2 celery pieces (plain - won't do that again heheh)
Dinner:
Portobello Parmesagn (100% organic natural marinara (no sugar, all natural SBD ingredients), 2 portobello mushroom tops, and 2% mozerella cheese) - THIS IS SOOOOOO GOOD, hopefully it is OK...
Dessert:
Sugarfree fudge sicle
I didn't go for a "walk" per se, but I did go shopping at the Wal Mart for about an hour...so I did the equivalent amount of walking without the incline as I would have on my trail out here.... I even parked far in the back of the parking lot at work and at the Wal Mart to increase hte amount of walking I had to do during the day since I knew I had some errands and wouldn't get home until after dark.
Hope I did okay! I plan to have basically the same thing every day, except for the mushroom thing. That will probably be once a week since it took me so long to prepare (I'm not a good cook). I will likely be having just a plain chicken breast with some salsa, some steamed broccoli, and salsa for the chicken. Possibly with a salad, depending on how hungry I am.
I also was very proud of myself for drinking 2 bottles of water on top of the Crystal Light. Being the soda junkie (3-4 cans of soda/day at least), I was very happy to have drink this much water!
I have not been able to find the iJournal that you are talking about? If you could point me where it is locate better, that might help me a little. Thank you.
Thank you all for your support. That will definitely help me to keep going!!!!
~PCB~
I found the iJournal section! :-)
Once I get some free time (maybe Saturday) I will plan everything there in writing! It is already 11:30 here tonight. Wow, it has been a busy week!!!!
