I know it's a silly question but here it is: "how" do we loose the weight? Is it sweat? BM? How does it go away? Not magically... I read that on the SBD you can get constipated so it must go away in another way but which one?

LOL Sorry for this stupid question. I have a lot to think of these days since I'm not eating as much!!! LOL

You know its an interesting question. I'm not a science type person, so I really don't have any idea. But I was thinking about it - I lost 67lbs. My 9yr old weighs 68lbs. I lost a whole 9-yr old worth of "fat". Its a weird visual to look and him and think about that.

Here was a mini-explanation taken from the web-

Lipolysis (fat breakdown) and beta-oxidation occurs in the mitochondria. It is a cyclical process in which two carbons are removed from the fatty acid per cycle in the form of acetyl CoA, which proceeds through the Krebs cycle to produce ATP, CO2, and water.

So the fat is broken up into smaller molecules such as water and C02. These are then excreted in urine, feces, sweat etc.

Hope that helps!

Lisa,

WOW! I think the book explains it in more layman terms!

Just a lurker but wanted to jump in with a simple analogy...the fat is "burned" for fuel much in the same way that gasoline is used in a car.

Lots of good information already. All true. Wanted to point out that our liver is what metabolizes (eats) stored fat. It is the organ in the body that is meant to do this. But it also has other jobs and one of these is to pick up the slack for filtering wastes when the kidney can't function well. When we don't drink enough water the kidney doesn't function well and the liver can slow down its processing of stored fats in order to pick up the slack for the kidneys. So it is important to drink plenty of water. When we are burning fat we are also releasing chemicals (pollution, additives etc) that are easily stored in fat because they are fat soluble. Our kidneys are working overtime during this process anyways because they are processing these extra things in our system.

So be sure to drink your water!!
