Hi Everybody- Im new here but not new to Southbeach. Its been really hard for me to commit to Phase one with it being summer and all. Seems there is always something going on in my family with Barbeques, parties or get togethers. Food in my family is a big deal. Ive done the first week of phase 1, three times already with failure.

I managed to go the entire week on point with no mistakes. Had a wedding to go to this Saturday and cheated a tiny bit. Then got home and my family had another barbeque. I had a couple taco's and some beers. Today again I had a few taco's a hotdog (with the bread) and a few bites of a spicey chicken sandwich from burger king. I weighed my self just a bit ago and I seem to have lost 3 pounds. Pretty weird considering what I ate this weekend. My question is should I start the 2 weeks over from scatch tomorrow or move on to the 2nd week of phase 2? I want to get down to 130 pds and need to get serious now. I have 15 pds to lose and I have made up my mind that I am going to be totally committed to this diet. I finally got some encouraging compliments today from family that I havent seen in a while in regards to my weight loss. This motivates me to be successful on this diet and get passed phase 1. I am so very glad that I found this site. So many encouraging people and so many success stories. I look forward to your thoughts and reading your encouraging stories.

You are so very right! This is a way of living, not a diet. Maybe thats where my struggles come in to play. I'll be sure to keep that in mind. I appreciate the support.

I certainly want to lose weight and I have plenty to lose but my main reason for starting SB is to prevent myself from becoming diabetic. Both of my parents are diabetic and I have PCOS which also puts me at a much higher risk. I know this has to be a lifestyle for me, not just a diet. Today is one month on SB and I don't feel like I thought I would. I thought I'd feel trapped and like I was denying myself all the foods I loved. Instead, I feel like I'm in control of my eating. I feel like I can still eat some of the "bad" foods once in a while when special occasions come up. I don't feel like I'm on the verge of quitting this. It's the first food plan, or diet, that I've ever felt like I could stick with long term. Every other diet was about losing weight. Never really thought about maintaining it. And it wasn't about just plain being healthy. This way of eating allows me to eat a variety of foods... including fruit and grains!! I feel it's well balanced and allows for treats. I like that I don't feel like if I have a few bites of cake that I've blown it and it just spirals out of control. I feel like SB says it's ok to have some of that. The three bite rule is great! I love not feeling trapped. I hope you get to that point too!
