Scared to start...

I have a friend who has been very successful with SB, so I'm looking into it.    I think the Phase 1 sounds like something I definitely need.      I am a hardcore sugar addict!        I've never been successful w/ a diet for more than a few days.       I'm 5'8'' and  177.    I've gained 10 pounds in the last 8 months.   I know I'm doing a lot of emotional eating and trying to deal with some heavy emotional baggage.

I really want to start a better way of eating for my kids.    I know I eat terribly (lots of McD's, and I have no control when it comes to chocolate or cookies...)     I just don't know if I can do it.       Does anybody have any suggestions??

All I can tell you is this:

If you don't start - you will stay right where you are, guaranteed. If you do start, you may find a way of eating you love, lose weight, get healthy and change your life.

There is absolutely nothing to lose by giving it a try (well, except the weight ;-)

When I started I wasn't 100% confident that it would work or that I would stick with it. But I knew I had to at least try. If I hadn't jumped in and done it, I could still be sitting here 67lbs and 7 sizes bigger.

Do some seriuos stocking up on legal foods and rid your house of anything - and EVERYTHING - illegal.

If need be, spend some time before you start reading labels, reading posts and asking us questions b/c for everything you are addicted to - chocolate, cookies included (phase 2 not 1!!) there is a south beach alternative!!

Education and preparation are going to be your big keys to success in phase 1. It's tough but worth it and makes that transition into phase 2... oh so sweet!!

Coming to this message board is a great idea. I could not have made it this far without it. I just started about a week and a half ago and I have lost 5 lbs. I too am addicted to sweets but I don't crave them like I was at the beginning and I am able to make good choices. I am 5'5" and 200lbs now and it is just melting off.

Just Jump it is worth it.

If you eat cookies or other sweets throughout phase 1 then you might have a problem detoxing.

Just keep moving. And try and keep a watch for how the cheats/treats affect you in the days coming up - cravings are what you should be concerned about.

For me, a bite of a sugar cookie isn't a problem (still a cheat) but it doesn't lead to cravings in the following days and I can actually have just one bite and feel soothed.

White flour in the form of bread, tortilla, chip, OMG a crescent roll... (see?) - absolutely not. Wreeeeeeeks HAVOC on me for days.
