Diabetic starting SBD

Hi everyone! I'm a T2 diabetic who's doctor has suggested that I go off Weight Watchers and begin SBD. I've read the book - cover to cover - as well as many of the messages on this Board - and am ready to dive in!! He suggested that I wait until after the Holidays, but the eating patterns for WW and SBD are very similar and I'm ready for a change!!

In the past year I've lost 70 pounds and then plateaued and put back on 10. It is going down again, thank goodness, but I've got a LONG way to go and am excited about a new focus (other than the diabetes) in my life.

I'll be asking my doctor at my Monday morning appointment about skipping P1 and going straight to P2 as the information I saw on this Board suggested. I thought that there may have been another edition published, but Barnes & Noble said that the first edition was the only one out. I truly appreciate the updates as well as the newsletters that I've been subscribing to (from the SBD site). I've found them very informative.

Is there another edition of the SBD book out? If so, I'd love to purchase it wherever I can.

Any other diabetics out there with some "words of wisdom" as I begin another chapter in my life (the SBD)?

Welcome to the board! There isn't a new edition to the book, but we have all the changes listed here on the board. Just scroll through the Getting Started thread in the phase one folder. I think the biggest change was the addition of dairy to phase one. ETA: Here's the link:
Updates to South Beach Diet since the book was published.

As a diabetic, you should skip phase one and start on a full phase two.

Hi Sharon,
Welcome to The Beach -- hopefully this will be a good solution to your diabetes issues. Stick around and post often, we like to help. The holidays can be challenging but you sound like you're prepared to fight for your health. :-)

Welcome Sharon. I am also a T2 diabetic (have only been diagnosed for a few years now) and started SBD towards the end of the summer. I have lost 20 lbs. so far. I just had a baby last february so I had several incentives to find a consistent healthy lifestyle plan of eating, both to lose baby weight and regulate blood sugars. One thing I lacked before SBD was a

Hi everyone and thanks for the friendly-fuzzies and warm welcome!!

I went to my doctor yesterday and asked about P1 vs. P2 to start with and was told that I could make that decision for myself as I'm at a very good place with my Diabetes. I haven't made the decision yet as I've read P1 from cover to cover and have highlighted almost every word (teehee) for future reference, but have not delved into P2.

My eating habits are actually very good; mostly whole foods with anything pasta or bread based being wheat or whole grains. I have a TON of weight to lose and have been pretty successful in the past year. Funny, he could not believe that without trying (truly) I'd lost 10 pounds from 2 weeks ago.

All of my blood work came back fabulous, in fact I had been trying to get my "good" cholesterol up to 50 (the recommended for women) and finally hit the 50 mark. Apparently the best way to get them up is to exercise and I've been relatively diligent with going to Curves and doing at least 30 minutes a day of walking. My triglycerides are fantastic and my LDL is 86. All other stats looked great as well.

Now comes the time to make the decision (after reading, of course). I'll be scouring this board for information as well as I have found it very helpful already - without even starting SBD!!

In reference to Byetta, I've been on and off of it since last November and found it to be very helpful in losing weight. I did great on the 5-pen, but the 10-pen causes me to get very queasy and unable to eat - thus messing with my sugars. He said that with my A1C at 6.5 (up from 6.0 - but still great) that I can put my injections away for now!!! YIPPEE!!!!

Again, thanks for all the warm fuzzies!! I'll keep y'all posted and will continue to look (read: lurk!) for more valuable information!!
