weight loss plateau

Hi, I've been on the SBD for one week now. In the first 4 days I lost 6 lbs. but over the past couple of days I haven't lost even an ounce. I seem to have hit some plateau. Is this normal? How can I get my weight to drop again? Fwiw, I am 26 yrs. old and have always been slender and I've never had to diet before so I don't know how easily I can (or can't) lose weight. I had a baby 6 months ago and have only lost 30 of the 65 lbs. I gained during pregnancy.

Thanks!

Hi Celeste and welcome,

A normal and healthy rate of weight loss is .5-2lbs per WEEK. Usually phase 1 is a bit more dramatic than that - but its only temporary. The rapid rate of weight loss that takes place in the first week or so of a diet does not continue. Its just water weight those first few days - that's why the scale drops so quickly.

A few days without a loss is not considered to really be a plateau. In fact, its normal to sometimes go a few weeks at a time without a loss on the scale. I lost 67lbs and it took me about 1 year. I had some weeks I would lose 1 or 2 pounds, then lose none for a week or two. Weight loss does not happen in a predictable, linear or regular fashion. Its a process. One of the most important aspect of weight loss is patience and to understand that if you keep going the scale WILL catch up to your efforts.

I think you should be VERY proud of those 30 pounds you have already lost! That is a huge accomplishment- you are almost half way to your goal!
