i have read and reread the south beach diet book and think it is a wonderful healthy weight loss plan, but my problem is that i get absoutly NO support from my family and they have healthy food in the house but continue to buy banned things on phase 1 AKA (my weaknesses- light icecream, south beach diet cereal protien bars, fiber bars, skinny cow icecream cones, and fruits just to name a few) i need to lose about 10 pounds and need support/help to keep me on track, tips you have or tips to keep me on track, and maybe sucess stories to keep me inspired. any help is appreciated. :)

Just get it in your mind that YOU are doing this for YOU. There will always be temptation around... if not at home, at work, out with friends, when you travel. Just remind yourself why you want to do this. This board is a great place for inspiration. In then end though, success or failure is up to you, not the board, not your family. You can do this! Phase 1 is only 2 weeks! If you keep telling yourself that YOU CAN GET THROUGH IT!!

Are you talking about not getting support from your parents and siblings, or from your spouse? Have you had a real heart to heart conversation about what you mean by "support" and why you need it? If it's your husband, I find that I need to do these "heart to hearts" almost monthly, otherwise it's easy for us both to get off track together due to social engagements. I ask him regularly for exactly what I need, i.e. "Dave, make sure I exercise tomorrow instead of putting it off" or "Dave, don't let me have more than one drink tonight". The more specific I am, and the more frequent I ask for it, the better support I get.

I think you have to keep in mind that phase 1 is only 2 weeks. I am a huge believer in only having healthy foods in the house - but honestly, it sounds like they DOh ave healthy foods, just not phase 1 friendly. You can't expect your whole household to do phase 1. Truly, phase 1 is not really "healthy" eating, its just a detox. So those not needing to detox should NOT do phase 1. For example, when my dh and I did phase 1 three years ago I still HAD to keep healthy grains and fruits in the house for my kids. Phase 1 would not have been healthy for them. So while I know it must be tough, I don't think it would be fair to deprive everyone of otherwise healthy things like fruit or high fiber cereal. You will just have to make it through the 14 days and then you can join them in having those things too!
