How would you go about telling if a soup was legal or not??

Look at the ingredients...make sure there's no added sugar, high fructose corn syrup, etc.

Here is the official canned soup guidelines:

Our guidelines for canned soup is that is contain allowed South Beach Diet ingredients and have no added sugars. 1 cup should contain less than or equal to 5 grams of sugar and greater than or equal to 4 grams of fiber.

I've never found a tomato soup without added sugar, and I've looked hard for 3 years as its one of dh's favorite things. There aren't a lot of canned soups that meet the guidelines - but if you are looking for convenience, my grocery store has lots of pre-made soups in plastic tubs in the deli area that are legal - just had some Rosemary Chicken and White Bean for lunch today. But they have minestrone, veggie, black bean vegetarian chili, etc. I keep one on the fridge at all times for a quick, easy, microwaveable lunch.

You're welcome - just be sure to read labels VERY carefully. Look mainly at the ingredient list and make sure each ingredient is on the Foods to Enjoy list.
