new to posting - back on the beach

My name is Glenda and I am single, 46 years old, and feel I have been overweight forever.  I am in Canada, and that raises a few challenges with South Beach, because some of the products mentioned in the book and in the recipes , and on line don't always exist in the grocery stores here.

A few years back I bought the Original South Beach Diet Book.  I was at my highest weight ever, over 250lbs.  I followed the diet mainly on my own and made it down to 186 at my lowest point, I joined a gym, bought new clothes, and felt fantastic,  but the weight loss stalled.  At that point I had a room mate who cooked and purchased most of the food, much of which were not on the plan.  On this health kick, I quit smoking. It was my 2 year anniversary on New Years Day. Unfortunately this also added about an extra 20lbs, putting me back at 214 after the holidays this year.

I have tried a few times over the last 2 yrs to get back on track, but I have always failed.  But this time I have more determination.  I have been in my own condo for the last 6 months, and I think it's time to get serious.  The mortgage payments mean I need to keep my grocery costs in check to some degree, but I want to get back into my summer wardrobe.

Today was the end of my first week on phase 1.  Unfortunately the loss was minimal, 2lbs.  This was better then when I weighed myself on Saturday, to see the scale at the same spot. When I had originally succeeded on the diet, I still had cream in my coffee, and it seemed to be so easy and to work so quickly.  I haven't had the dreaded headache this time, and I wish I would get it because that was always a sign that it was working.

So today I moved to double milk in my coffee, and I also walked down seven flights of stairs this morning, and back up them after work.  I work Monday to Friday, and have to pack a lunch and snacks.  The foods that eat  seem to be the same all the time.  Here is what I had today.

Breakfast- Egg and Sausage Cups.  ( I make a supply for the week so I have a quick breakfast on phase 1)|

Morning Snack- low fat cheese string and spicy v8 Juice

Lunch- large salad with greens, red pepper, red onion, celery, low fat cheese with chicken strips. I use Paul Newmans balsamic dressing.  The nutrition facts show that the regular has less sugar then the low fat, and it is available in my regular grocery store.

Dinner - Steak with mushrooms, cauliflower and a small salad.

For my sweet treat I have Jello no sugar added pudding snacks.  60 Calories but now that I look at the ingredients this may not be my best choice.

Please let me know what you think so far.  I would also like some suggestions from other Canadians on the board to see what products they use.  The Sweet treats and snacks can pose a problem.

Should I be worried about the minimal loss and lack of headache?

I have ready the boards before, but haven't posted in the last couple of years anyway.  Any suggestions, and encouragement will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Glenda,
Just adding in my "welcome" -- you do sound determined, which is a huge first step, eh??! (sorry, had to get that little Canadian thing in there, LOL)
