What can I eat at a Mexican Restaurant?

Ok on of my girlfriends is turning 30 and we are having a surprise b-day party for her. (I hope she isn't on this board :) )

Anyway, one of the stops is a mexican restuarant where we will be eating dinner before the event.  So I can't not go, but I am scared as to what I can order.  I am on day 4 of Phase one and have lost 4lbs already, so I really don't want to mess up.  I am also not eating meat, or poultry these days but am eating seafood.

Does anyone have suggestions on some good options for me to order?

Oh Fun, a 30th B-Day Party!! My DH & I love Mexican and what I do is I either order a ceasar salad with chicken or chicken fajitas but I just eat it with a little guacomole and no tortillas, beans or rice. I also ask for extra veggies and a side salad. Its hard to avoid the chips and salsa but sometimes I will just have a fork full of the salsa and that satisfies.

edited to add: be sure not to have any tortilla strips (common on mex. ceaser salads) or croutons on your salad.

Have fun!

You can also ask them for fresh veggies to dip in the guac and salsa? You *know* they have peppers back there to slice up!

We always get fajitas - usually chicken or shrimp and ask for extra veggies. We eat them without the tortillas, just topped with lots of pico, salsa and guacamole. Most restaurants we go to have black beans that are not refried, so we get those. Personally I do eat refried beans that are made with a legal oil rather than lard - just ask if their beans are "vegetarian" to find out. Most places I go to are. Of course if they are with lard - then you're out of luck.

I went to my favorite last night and they have tostadas de ceviche, and I just ordered the ceviche on a bed of lettuce (IT WAS YUMMY!)

Sounds like you made a great choice. Way to go on doing so good. I know resisiting a Margarita would have been so hard for me too. You did it!
