am i stalled?

Of course, after reporting my success in week 1, i fear i am stalled. I lost 4-5 lbs. quickly but not a budge since Friday. I have not "cheated" by eating off the list but i may have juggled portion sizes by not paying close attention - like making a dish that serves four and eating 1/3.

Is this normal or did i screw up somewhere?

I really don't think you've stalled.

A 'true' stall is defined by SBD as 6 weeks or more (I think that was the minimum).

As Joy said, stalls are usually measured in weeks or months, not days. You will NOT see daily or even weekly loss. I generally lost 1-2lbs one week, then none for for 1 or 2 weeks, then 2lbs, then none for a week, then 1lb, then none for two weeks, etc. Over the course of 11 months I still lost 70lbs, but it wasn't at a consistent, predictable rate. Its just the way weight loss goes. I had one time that I didn't lose for 3 weeks, then lost 4lbs. It still isn't a stall, its just your body adjusting to your new weight and "catching up". I actually loved the weeks I didn't lose, those were always the weeks that I noticed the biggest changes in my body. It was like it couldn't handle losing and shrinking the same weeks, it did one or the other and alternated.

thanks for the insights. i just did't know what to expect. somewhere i read 8-13 pounds the first 2 weeks - which i thought was too good to be true. and course i always hear the water weight explanation. i was really expecting about a pound a week so i've exceeded that and should be happy.

and i am happy! just wanted to make sure i was still on the right track so i could stay there.

I think the way it's worded is that you may lose 8 - 13 pounds in the first two weeks.

Thanks for your post! I was feeling discouraged -- lost 8 pounds quickly then I've stalled for a week. I also need to lose 70 lbs., so I connected to your post and I'm going to keep it up. Thanks again.

Hi musicmom, just thought I would give you a for example. I started SB with a total of 92 pounds to lose. In the first week of phase 1, I lost 7 pounds. In the 2nd week of P1, I lost only 2 pounds. So the weight loss did significantly slow down in the 2nd week of P1, even tho I still had lots of weight to lose.

Just stick with it, those pounds will come off. I now only have about 28 pounds left to get to my goal weight. I have had weeks where I felt like I was still extremely fat, followed by weeks of feeling like the inches were just melting away. And it's not at all uncommon for you body to need to catch up after those initial pounds you lose at the beginning of P1.

I wish you much success in your weight loss journey!!!

Joy,

Thanks so much for that info. I realize i am only hoping to lose 7-10 lbs more - and then continue on the dietary guidelines for better heart health. My TG is very high compared to my other lipid profile (I'm on a statin for high LDL) and i am also hoping the diet will help those numbers. In most cases, weight loss of more than 2 pounds a week is unexpected and unhealthy - and I would be satisfied to lose 1 pound a week that was "real". I just need to manage my impatient and carry on, knowing there is success at the end.
