what to do with it. I did a search and see the roasted with pine nuts but they didn't look like anything I would like.

I don't have a steamer so can anyone tell me how else to cook them???

DH says he likes asparagus, I've never tried it, but he doesn't know how to cook them either. What do they go well with??

Thanks,

Sue

I love them tossed with olive oil and salt and then roasted in the oven at 400 degrees for about 40 minutes.

I just remembered another alternative - I also like to stir fry them. Cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces, heat some oil and stir fry with soy sauce, garlic, ginger and a small bit of sesame oil.

Sue,

We usually either steam or nuke asparagus. And at least once a week. The wonderful thing about asparagus is that it still tastes good if you overcook it.

first, break off the woody base of the stem. It is more reliable than cutting the stem. It somehow always just snaps at the right spot.

Put them in a corning ware, add a splash of water (enough to cover the bottom of the dish), cover. Microwave on high for 2:30. Check. If still pale, cook for another 30 seconds or longer.

To steam, put them in the top of your steamer over an inch of water. Cover and put on high heat. Cook for 10-15 minutes.

My grandmother puts it in a skillet with water to almost cover and simmers them.

Top with olive oil, lemon juice, and/or shredded parmesan.

Chill any leftover stalks and serve with vinagrette. Or I've been wrapping a slice of ham and a slice of cheese around a stalk for my snack.

One word of caution: asparagus will make your pee smell funny. If you aren't warned, that could be startling.

HTH!

Yummy! I love asparagus!

You could cook it on the stove in a regular pot with a little water and "steam" them that way...or...

You can cut them into threes along with an onion, red pepper, yellow pepper, green pepper, zucchini and toss with olive oil and garlic salt put on a cookie sheet and bake at 450 for about 20-30mins...or...

You can even cook them on the grill, coat them with olive oil maybe some lemon juice, salt and pepper till done...

Hope this helps!

Enjoy!
