Fish???

For my family, fish has always been a "special" food. Salmon, made in the oven with either white sauce or an oil/white wine sauce, was strictly for parties. I want to start eating fish more often because it's so healthy and it's a nice alternative to poultry. Can anyone suggest a type of fish that is inexpensive and that tastes good grilled? Thanks!

Cod or Scrod is a mild white fish that is inexpensive and versatile.

Julia,

Salmon is also great grilled. I like to grill it inside a foil packet. Do you have the SBD book? There is a great recipe for orange roughy with s scallion ginger sauce that is amazing with salmon.

Tuna steaks are great on the grill too. It is a rather bland fish, so it requires marinating. Here is my all-time favorite marinade (good with any fish, steak or chicken):

For 2 lbs of fish steaks:

1/2 cup olive oil

2 tsp crushed garlic (jarred - or substitute fresh)

4 T lemon juice

4 T soy sauce

1 tsp fresh dill

HTH ---- enjoy!!!

I got a huge package of tilapia fillets at Costco, froze them individually . I take one out to defrost, rub it lightly with olive oil and Mrs. Dash and throw it on the George Foreman grill for a few minutes. That and a salad---there's dinner!

Mahi Mahi is really reasonable and frozen individually at Sam's Club. I just season like I would anything else and toss on the grill. My boys even love it.

I also got a big bag of tialpia at Sam's Club, and they came frozen in individual packages. I like to spray them with Olive Oil Pam, and then sprinkle cajun seasoning on them and grill! Salmon is another one that's good and inexpensive. I sprinkle mine with cayenne pepper, dill and a splash of worschester sauce, and let it marinade for about 15 minutes, then grill.

salmon, red steel trout (tastes like salmon), tiliapia, catfish... not fish: shrimp, scallops

I *love* the grilled rosemary salmon (can be broiled too) in the SBD book!

Here's my favorite tiliapia recipe:

* Tilapia Almandine *
From Kat - katindyus<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Tilapia (flounder, or sole – would be good with any mild white fish)
1 TBS butter or olive oil
1/ 4 cup sliced almonds
2 tsp lemon juice

Melt 1tbsp butter and fry the tilapia 2-3 minute each side till it flakes easily. Remove from pan. Melt another tbsp butter, add 1/4 cup almonds, 2 tsp lemon juice and saute for 1 minutes. Serve sauce over fish.
