Greek Lamb Burgers with Yogurt Sauce


Burgers:
2 pounds ground lamb
1/2 cup plain non-fat yogurt
2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint
2 teaspoons oregano
1 tablespoon grated lemon zest
2 garlic cloves, finely minced
1/2 teaspoon salt


Yogurt Sauce:
1 cup plain non-fat yogurt
4 oz. reduced fat feta cheese, crumbled
3 garlic cloves, finely minced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper


6 regular size whole wheat pitas (Phase 2)
1 medium tomato, sliced thin
1/2 cucumber, peeled and sliced thin
6 romaine lettuce leaves


Heat gas grill to medium.


Make burgers: In a large bowl, combine lamb, yogurt, mint, oregano, lemon zest, garlic and salt.  Form into 6 patties.  Cover and refrigerate while making yogurt sauce.


Make yogurt sauce: In a medium bowl, combine yogurt, feta cheese, garlic, lemon juice, salt & pepper.  Cover & refrigerate until ready to serve.


Grill burgers about 12 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees, turning once half way through cooking time.


Insert burger into pita bread and garnish with tomato slices, cucumber slices, lettuce leaves and yogurt sauce.

Cathy, these do sound good. In what phase are we allowed to have lamb? I have the SBD book and can't find reference to it. Thanks!
