Chef's Tip: Neutralizing Food Smells

Onions and garlic add great flavor to your food, but cooking with them can leave an unpleasant smell on your hands. Instead of scrubbing yourself raw to eliminate the smell, try these clever techniques for neutralizing food odors:

  • Rub moist salt into your hands, and rinse with soap and water.
  • Sprinkle your hands with baking soda, and rinse with soap and water.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water, and then rinse with milk.
  • Rub your hands on the pulp side of a lemon, and then rinse with soap and water.
  • Rub your hands with the cut end of a piece of celery.
  • Rub your hands with toothpaste.
