Whole Wheat Pizza Crust!

I just made pizza tonight with a whole wheat pizza crust recipe. I hope I didn't over do it by eating three pieces! I topped it with SBD friendly pizza sauce, mozzerella and onions. It was so good. Here is the recipe:

Whole Wheat Pizza Dough

Quick, easy, yummy homemade pizza dough, which you can

top any way that you like. This makes a thin crust but it

can be doubled for a thick crust. Prep Time: approx. 10

Minutes. Cook Time: approx. 10 Minutes. Ready in: approx. 20

Minutes. Makes 1 - 12 inch pizza crust (12 servings).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 (.25 ounce) package active

dry yeast

1 cup warm water

2 cups whole wheat flour

1/4 cup wheat germ

1 teaspoon salt

Directions

1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

2 In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let

stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.

3 In a large bowl combine flour, wheat germ and salt.

Make a well in the middle and add yeast.

Stir well to combine. Knead for a few minutes. Cover and set in a warm place to

rise for a few minutes. (I had to let mine sit for an hour before it rose).

4 Roll dough on a floured pizza pan and poke a few holes

in it with a fork.

5 Bake in preheated oven for 5 to 10 minutes, or until

desired crispiness is achieved.

6 Top with desired toppings and put back in the oven until cheese is melted. About 5-10 minutes.

THanks for posting this. I can't wait to try it. I have been emailing every major pizza chain in my area begging them to do a whole wheat crust! Many of them have their "Low carb" crust but it is not SBD friendly.

THANKS!

Michelle

PS- Do I buy whole wheat flour at the grocery store or do I need to go to a speciality store?

It is usually right next to the regular flour at the grocery store.

I made pizza last night with this whole wheat crust and wasn't too fond of it. Tolerable, but I probably won't make it again. My husband couldn't stand it! He didn't even finish his piece, and he eats pretty much anything.

I think I'll try one of those reduced carb crust pizzas that the chains have come out with next time. Or maybe I'll try making mini pizzas on whole wheat english muffins.

Just thought I'd share my opinions - I know everyone has different tastes!

Susan, sorry you didn't like the pizza crust. Our family loved it! It turned out being a nice thick fluffy crust and was, I thought, pretty tasty. My husband ate it all up and loved it. We doused it in cheese though, maybe that's why. Anyone else try this? What did you think of it?
