A family tradition that has served me well on SBD...

I don't eat my desserts after dinner :-) I eat them in the middle of the afternoon with a cup of hot tea.

Growing up, Mom and I would have tea and a piece of whatever was in the cake saver or cookie jar every afternoon when I got home from school and chit-chat. This is a tradition from her family, Dutch immigrant farmers. My grandfather would come in from the fields around 2:30/3:00 every afternoon and they'd all sit down for tea and cake or whatever they had.

Since starting SBD, I've found that I'm usually comfortably full after dinner and not looking for any dessert more substantial than fruit or yogurt, but I love and missed cakes, cookies, and pies...and when I would "save room" for them, I wouldn't eat enough good stuff and would over-eat on the dessert end. So now I make SBD-friendly versions and have them during that afternoon-sweet-craving time.

It's harder now that I'm working "normal" hours again, and I need to sit down and bake this weekend, but it definitely helps me keep my sweet tooth in check without feeling deprived!
