I have become a big fan of Old Fashion Oatmeal. I make it about 3-4 days a week. I have come up with a couple of variations I would like to share and to ask you to share any other variations.
First for a frame of referance, I use 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of oatmeal - cooked for six minutes. I always add a lot of Cinnamon and a dash of salt. I most often top it with a couple of sprays of I Can't Believe it's not Butter (Sometimes splenda, sometimes not.)
My variations so far:
Blue Berries - I add about a 1/4 of frozen blue berries to the oatmeal. Put them in about half way through the cooking to make sure they get warm and your oatmeal is hot enough. (Make sure you get the no sugar added berries. I got some rasberries once that had sugar added.)
Peanut Butter - I put about a tablespoon of peanut butter and mix it in with my oatmeal. I use either Simply Jiff or natural.
Chocolate - Sounds strange, but I put about 1 or 1-1/2 teaspoons of coco powder, I add while the water is boiling. I love it, I sometimes will mix the peanut butter in also, it is like a reeses pieces.
Any other ideas?

Karen,
I would agree with Cathy about the Microwave cooking method. The only thing I would worry about would be, over cooking it and making it to soggy. (I know, how do you define to soggy with oatmeal? It is supposed to be soggy.)
Another New Variation on Oatmeal:
I chop up an ounce of bittersweet baking chocolate and add it to my bowl of oatmeal. I love the taste! Sometimes I add splenda, sometimes I do not.
